2FM breakfast fans have their say as Aifric O’Connell makes his debut

Fans have had their say on Derryann Garrihy’s replacement at 2FM, Aifric O’Connell.

Both Doireann and The 2 Johnnies left their respective shows on Friday (May 31), with Jennifer Zamparelli also leaving her show earlier this month.

Aifric took Doireann’s place for her first 2FM Breakfast show on Tuesday, and the newcomer did not disappoint, with fans pleasantly surprised by the new addition.

Aifric has worked for 2FM full-time since 2017, where she worked as a cover story for the late Larry Gogan and as a researcher on The Dave Fanning Show.

She began working as a presenter alongside Carl Mullan on Weekend Breakfast and was a regular contributor to shows such as Drive It with the 2 Johnnies.

Sharing a photo of the star alongside her two new co-hosts, 2FM wrote; ‘Welcome to the #2FMBreakfast @aifricoc family. Tune in weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Responding to the comments, fans of the series were quick to share their love for Doireann’s successor.

“A great show this morning, Aifric, you were in class,” greeted a user.

“Just like the pro, you are @aifricoc,” congratulated another.

“Honestly, I think she was the only one for the job!” » added a third.

Dan Healy, director of 2FM, welcomed Aifric and his new colleagues, Lottie and David with open arms in a statement released earlier this month.

“We are very excited to strengthen our program this summer with local talent from 2FM with Aifric, Lottie and David. 2FM has always been programmed with a mix of presenters who learned their trade here and outside personalities who have built a reputation with younger audiences,” he said.

“It always starts with the audience first and this summer’s program is built with them only in mind. I believe 2FM has the most exciting mission in RTÉ. Our mission is to inform and entertain younger audiences with wonderful music, talk and sport. Summer is full of music and sports and that’s where we’ll be.

“We will work hard to continue to build a station with the next generation of 2FM presenters and there is no shortage of them.”
