A major fast food chain with over 100 locations abruptly closes a restaurant without notice as residents wonder, “Where do we go from here?”
A FAST-FOOD giant has abruptly closed one of its chains after a short period of time, leaving some residents confused and saddened.
The California franchise only started welcoming hungry customers in December 2022, but appears to have pulled through.
Taco Bell, a Mexican-inspired restaurant, has closed its doors in Grantham, Lincolnshire, dealing a blow to burrito shoppers.
The London Road restaurant’s signs have been removed and the windows have been boarded up, Lincolnshire Live reported.
The company took over a former Pizza Hut, claiming to have a capacity of 60 people and creating jobs for 35 others.
The Taco restaurant’s future prospects previously appeared bright, with talks of adding a drive-thru to the location.
But this proposal was abandoned due to traffic problems and the store is now out of service.
It was reportedly open only last weekend, but on Monday, July 1, residents had to go elsewhere to buy tacos.
Some residents took to social media to express their sadness.
One of them tagged friends in a Facebook comment, asking: “Where are you two going to go now?”
Others commented with sad face emojis.
But other views suggest it was only a matter of time before it closed.
One comment read: “Waiting for the Lincoln one to close. Never seen anyone in there.”
Another seemed to think there weren’t enough Mexican fast food fans in the area, writing: “Not surprising, who the hell wants to eat a huge chip with minced meat in it?”
A third said that because of its location, locals were likely to simply “drive past” it rather than stop there.
The chain is not afraid to abruptly close stores.
In December 2023, Taco Bell closed a popular drive-through restaurant in The Haudagain retail park in Aberdeen.
A notice appeared on the door informing customers of the closure, according to local news reports.
It read: “Permanently closed. The closest Taco Bell is Aberdeen Union Street and also offers delivery on Just Eat and Uber Eats.”
The Sun has contacted Taco Bell for comment regarding its recent closure in Grantham.
Five Guys Considers Further Expansion
Burger chain Five Guys has embarked on an expansion mission after exploding in popularity.
It opened two new sites in October 2023 and plans to open hundreds more.
It has launched a new burger restaurant in Barton Mills, marking the branch’s second drive-through outlet in the UK.
Five Guys has also opened stores in Bolton, McArthurGlen Designer Outlet in Cheshire Oaks and Norwich Riverside, with promises to open more.
Chief executive John Eckbert said Five Guys was only “halfway there” in its UK expansion, although it already had more than 160 branches.
