AFS takes action to combat growing food insecurity in Africa

To curb growing food insecurity in Africa, Africa Food Systems (AFS) will bring together 5,000 global leaders, innovators, academics, development agencies, farmers’ organizations and the private sector from across Africa in Rwanda to discuss solutions.

The forum will highlight innovations and technologies, policies and implementation mechanisms, best practices, business models and investments to accelerate the transformation of food systems in Africa with youth and women at the helm.

“Innovate, accelerate and evolve are not just words, they are the pillars on which the future of African food systems will be built. We are committed to leveraging the best of science, policy and technology to drive this transformation,” said Amath Pathé Sene, CEO of the AFS Forum.

“This year’s summit provides an unprecedented platform for stakeholders to come together, share ideas and forge partnerships that will lead to concrete action. It is through such collective efforts that we can address the pressing challenges of climate change, food insecurity and economic inclusion,” he added.

Sene said the aim of the forum is to create an environment where innovative ideas can flourish, leading to sustainable solutions that benefit all, especially youth and women.

The forum’s founder, Edouard Ngirente, Prime Minister of Rwanda, also said the summit would feature a rich programme, including plenary sessions, thematic forums, side events and leaders’ exchanges.

According to him, it will be a unique and forward-looking platform for concrete dialogue and peer learning, as stakeholders address the urgent need for innovative solutions to transform food systems in Africa.

“To transform the agricultural sector into a powerful engine of economic development, our country is demonstrating innovation and making evidence-based policy decisions. In this context, the government has focused on de-risking the sector to make it more profitable and attractive to young people and private sector players,” said Mr. Ngirente.
