Are they glass or plastic?
McDonald’s in Canada has a different approach.
Not only do they offer tastier McFlurry flavors and a wider selection of McNugget sauces, but they also now offer better collectible cups.
What are McDonald’s Collector Mugs?
At one time, collectible mugs were a staple of McDonald’s promotions. Since the 1980s, you’ve gotten a special meal accompanied by a character-themed drink.
The contest was usually tied to a promotion. For example, there was a line of collectible Garfield glass mugs, available only at McDonald’s.
Ultimately, the collector’s glasses disappeared until a few days ago.

At McDonald’s, everything old is new again. They’ve already brought back a bunch of Grimace merchandise and even revived the McNugget Buddies concept. The collectible cups are now back in restaurants across the country, featuring characters like Shrek, Snoopy, and the Minions.
Are McDonald’s collector cups glass or plastic?
The original McDonald’s mugs that existed in the 80s and early 90s were made of glass. Some were taller glasses, while others were collectible mugs.
When McDonald’s announced their latest line of collectible mugs currently available to customers who order a collectible meal, they did so with photos showing what many believed to be real mugs.
Unfortunately for those who want to reminisce about carefully carrying their Care Bears cups to the car after their Happy Meal, the collectible cups are made of plastic.
Not everyone is a fan of this choice.
“I bought a collectible mug thinking it would be glass. It is NOT. This is crap. I should know better,” reads one comment on a Reddit thread detailing the experiences of people who bought the mugs at McDonald’s.
From the photos shared in the thread, the plastic cups are covered with a plastic bag. You also get a regular cup with your meal.
Unless you go to a McDonald’s in Canada. The press materials for the collector’s edition mugs available in Canada show the Collector’s Edition glasses being actually glass.
If you go there, you can get a drink for $3 with the purchase of any value-added meal.
