A&W partners with Labatt Breweries to test non-alcoholic beer
Fast food chain A&W Canada has entered into a collaboration with Labatt Breweries of Canada to pilot the offering of a non-alcoholic beer.
This initiative makes A&W the first quick-service restaurant in Canada to offer non-alcoholic beer options, tapping into the growing market of consumers looking for non-alcoholic alternatives.
The pilot project will run at select A&W locations across Ontario for a limited time. Budweiser Zero, a non-alcoholic beer containing only 50 calories per 355 ml can, will be added to the beverage menu.
This measure will also respond to the growing number of “sober and curious” customers and will align with the growing popularity of non-alcoholic drinks.
The pilot program, which also coincides with the baseball season, builds on the two companies’ partnership with the Toronto Blue Jays.
A&W will offer a special Baseball Buds combo, which includes a Buddy Burger, fries and Budweiser Zero, for $9.99 plus tax. Customers can add a can of Budweiser Zero to any combo for an additional $2.

Andrew Oosterhuis, Labatt’s Vice President of Marketing, said: “Beer and burgers are summer favourites, so partnering with one of Canada’s most loved burger chains to bring the Budweiser brand – through our non-alcoholic product – to Ontarians in an accessible way is an exciting partnership.
“The availability of Budweiser Zero at A&W restaurants across Ontario provides consumers with greater beverage choices at quick-service restaurants while further strengthening the non-alcoholic beverage category, which continues to grow.”
A&W is known for classics like the Teen Burger, hand-breaded onion rings and root beer, and operates 1,000 restaurants nationwide.
Amanda Wang, A&W’s Chief Marketing Officer, added, “The introduction of Budweiser Zero is an extension of our commitment to meeting our customers’ needs by providing diverse, refreshing beverage options that perfectly complement our best-selling burgers.”
In July 2023, A&W launched three new Frozen Lemonade offerings in Canada: Sweet Cream Frozen Lemonade, Classic Frozen Lemonade and Strawberry Frozen Lemonade.
