BBC Breakfast fans fume at ‘unbearable’ election coverage of young voters | Television and radio | Showbiz and television

BBC Breakfast fans slammed the show this morning as presenters reported on the upcoming general election. With just 11 days until Election Day, part of the country is still unsure who to vote for, with many young people saying they would not vote at all.

Aubrey Allegretti and Alibhe Rea were reporting live from Westminster for the BBC program as they spoke to some voters who feel unrepresented by the parties contesting the July 4 general election.

This followed a short clip showing a number of students admitting they would not vote. One of the students, Krishna Bade, 19, said: “With elections, it doesn’t matter who wins, nothing changes. So it doesn’t matter who I vote for.”

Another young student, Bradley Sibanda, said: “In the future I hope to vote, but this year I just decided to take a step back. “.

Meanwhile, Aramintah, a mother of three, faces challenges with the cost of living and said she has lost faith in politicians. She said: “We kind of lose interest in it because we get so used to hearing what they’re going to do and ‘elect us and it will happen’. But it doesn’t happen like that.”

She added: “Now I don’t believe them. They might not necessarily lie, but they don’t stand by what they say.”

Following the interviews, Alibhe said she met many people who did not plan to vote on July 4. She said: “Those lines you just heard in this article too, that ‘whoever you vote for, nothing changes’, they’re all the same’ means a lot of people are voting for Reform UK or a vote independent as a protest vote.

“I think those are big challenges for everyone in the next election, restoring some of that trust, because it’s very unhealthy for our democracy that that feeling is so prevalent now.”

Although the BBC show attempted to cover all aspects of the election, fans on social media were furious with today’s media coverage. They called the spectacle “unbearable” because they complained about young voters.

Another added: “Is this the kids election report? They look like they just came out of Hogwarts #bbcbreakfast.” Meanwhile, a third moaned: “#bbcbreakfast is totally unbearable on Saturday and Sunday.”

Others criticized the interviewees, with one writing: “‘No matter who you vote for, nothing changes,’ says a young boy who was 5 the last time we had a vote change government #bbcbreakfast.”

Someone else wrote: “#bbcbreakfast A 19-year-old who has spent virtually his entire life under a Tory government says no matter who you vote for, nothing changes.”
