BBC Breakfast guest in tears as presenter questions his ‘raw emotions’ | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV
BBC Breakfast viewers were left shocked when musician Victoria Canal broke down in tears during the show.
During her appearance, the 25-year-old piano prodigy opened up about her new album and her experience performing at Glastonbury with Coldplay after frontman Chris Martin extended her a personal invitation to play with him.
Victoria told presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt how she developed an unexpected friendship with Chris after one of his online performances went viral, leading to their fateful meeting. They have since kept in touch and Chris stayed true to his word by asking her to join Coldplay at their headlining performance at the famous festival.
“It was a dream come true,” she emotionally told the hosts. Plus, Martin made a special gesture by inviting “Back to the Future” star Michael J Fox to play guitar for their cover of the hit “Fix You.”
Victoria told Naga and Charlie how the Hollywood actor gave her a pep talk when she felt overwhelmed backstage, after being put off by a headline that labelled her a “one-armed girl” rather than recognising her musical talent, the Mirror reports.
Victoria was born without a right forearm due to amniotic band syndrome, but she never let that define her artistic talent.
Michael, 63, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at age 29, gave her sage advice: “Let the tabloids write what they want,” and encouraged her to focus on her talent. She told Naga and Charlie that his words were exactly what she needed to hear at that moment.
Yet Charlie, a seasoned journalist with a long history of experience, noticed a hint of sadness in the presenter’s voice as she told her story. It was obvious to the presenter that the memories were still very “vivid.”
He asked her softly, “I have the impression, Victoria, that the emotions are still quite raw, when you talk about the moments you’ve just experienced. You’re quite young, so the emotions are probably still quite raw?”

She laughed, acknowledging his insight into her emotional state, and admitted, “Yeah, they’re pretty raw. I called my parents the day of the show, I’ve literally dreamed about this my whole life.”
“I couldn’t be more honored to share the stage with my songwriting hero and to meet individuals who embody perseverance and the unwavering pursuit of their dreams.”
Victoria continued, her voice thick with emotion: “Ever since I was little, I knew I wanted to do this and I always had the conviction to never give up,” and as she wiped away tears, she confessed: “So to have my dreams come true, it’s just very special.”
Charlie reassured her with sincere words: “It’s special and I can tell you now that you will in turn inspire many people.”
