BBC Breakfast host ‘disappears’ from show just days after co-star paid tribute to him saying he was ‘going in different directions’

One of BBC Breakfast’s main presenters has suddenly disappeared from the show.

On Monday mornings, Jon Kay and Sally Nugent usually take to the stage to give viewers the latest news and updates from the night.

However, Sally, 52, appeared absent from the BBC’s flagship show this morning (July 8).

Instead, veteran royal correspondent Sarah Campbell stepped in to sit next to Jon, 54.

She was wearing a lightweight sweater decorated with floral and butterfly embroidery.

The news personality looked comfortable as she sat on the iconic red couch, wearing a flowing gold skirt.

And it seems viewers are pleased with the unexpected shake-up of BBC Breakfast presenters.

One fan wrote: “Hello Jon and Sarah.”

A second exclaimed: “Hello, brilliant and fantastic people. Have a great Monday and a great start to the week.”

It comes after Jon took to social media where he revealed he and Sally were heading in “different directions” for the UK’s special general election coverage.

He was personally handpicked by bosses to be one of the main faces covering the aftermath of Labour’s huge landslide victory.

He went live from a pop-up studio in the heart of Westminster, outside Parliament, alongside veteran news presenter Sophie Raworth, 56.

Meanwhile, Sally was separated from her usual partner as she was part of the night reporting team for Sunderland’s key vote count.

He was present alongside a host of other familiar faces from the corporation’s elite list of presenters on BBC One.

Fiona Bruce, Victoria Derbyshire, Naga Munchetty and Jeremy Vine were among the other famous names that made up the mammoth team.

But Jon took to social media just before the popular duo split, praising his colleague and friend.

Along with a beaming photo of the couple in their usual studio habitat, he wrote: “A quick photo with Sally today after a very busy six weeks of campaign coverage on BBC Breakfast.

“Now we’re both going in different directions – to cover the results.”

Jon added: “Many BBC News colleagues are working incredibly hard right now, all across the UK.

“I am very proud to be part of this team.”
