Thanks to a Class 12 student, students of Government Nodal School, Bellandur have been eating bananas every day for the past year

This teenager has a compassionate approach to life that many adults fail to adopt. While interacting with public schools as part of her school projects, she discovered two pressing problems in the schools: students often arrived at school hungry, lacking food and nutrition. breakfastwhich impacted their concentration and learning, and the school only had three toilets for 400 students, leading to discomfort and long waits.

This is what led to the “Hungry No More” initiative launched by Sakshi Srikantha 12th grade student at Inventure Academy is Sarjapur Road.

This initiative has had a huge impact on the Government Nodal School in Bellandur. The school, housed in a 90-year-old building, serves 400 students from underprivileged local communities and children of migrant workers. Under the leadership of the Principal Thimme GowdaThe school strives to provide the best for its students, but faces challenges as children often come to school without having had breakfast and the school building does not have adequate toilets.


Sakshi started with smaller projects, such as distributing books and school supplies to local schools during the holiday season through her “Joy For Giving” initiative. Determined to make a difference, Sakshi launched the “Hungry No More” campaign, drawing on her background in chemistry and nutrition.

After consulting a nutritionist, she chose bananas as the best source of energy for the children every morning. She raised funds from friends, family and the community in the US and India to provide 400 bananas per day, purchased from a local vendor in Bellandur market. The initiative quickly yielded positive results, with teachers seeing improved concentration among students.

Throughout the 2023-2024 school year, students received bananas every morning, which they gratefully consumed.

“I had many interactions with the principal of Nodal Public School, Shri Thimme Gowda, which led me to identify lack of clean toilets and nutritious breakfast as two major problems. I knew that if I presented these issues to the right people, I could find a solution to both the problems that the children were facing,” Sakshi said.

With nutrition in place, Sakshi focused on toilets. An area adjacent to the school was identified for construction. Amazon Distributors“Thanks to CSR funds, the project was executed quickly, with minimal disruption to school activities, delivering five new toilets in record time.

Thimme Gowda said, “The banana delivery to the students of Government Nodal School, Bellandur was highly appreciated. Sakshi was very kind and understanding and fulfilled our request. She also helped us install five new toilets which are very helpful for the students. We look forward to such support from corporates and citizens.”

Sakshi’s future plans include understanding the importance of nutrition and hygiene.

“This led me to develop a passion for chemistry. I hope to pursue this passion by obtaining a degree in chemistry which I would like to use to tackle food and safety issues in the future,” she said.
