Charleston-area Hampton Inn & Suites gets a refresh with an update | Business
A suburban Charleston hotel has invested in a new look.
The 121 keys Hampton Inn & Suites in West Ashley at 678 Citadel Haven Drive near the Costco The supermarket recently completed a $5.6 million renovation.
The six-month renovation included updates to all guest rooms, meeting space, as well as public and outdoor spaces.
The property belongs to Bennett Hospitality and managed by Hilton.
The West Ashley lodging property features a professional workspace, an expanded fitness center, new lounge areas and new technology. Each guest room now features a 55-inch TV with Hilton’s exclusive “Smart Room” interface to stream Netflix programming and a variety of other content.
general manager Younes Zadi said the investment prioritizes “exceptional guest experiences through high-quality rooms, superior personalized service and the latest technological innovations and amenities.”
Let them make cake
A sweet surprise guest arrives The Loutrel in downtown Charleston for a free event.
Local pastry chef Julie McAllister brings the cast of season 3 of Netflix competition show ” It’s a piece of cake ? “ for an artist residency. They say that life imitates art, but sometimes it’s hard to say, that’s the principle of the exhibition.
Culinary artists will prepare an edible installation of realistic Southern dishes and depictions of Lowcountry life. The cakes will be on display in the lobby of 61 State St. beginning July 8 and will be available for free viewing through September 30.
Visitors will be able to meet the cake artists at an opening event on July 8 at the hotel from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Kristin Eagles, The Man of Jujhar, Timmy Norman, Grace Pak, Raina Washington, Caitlin Taylor and winner of season 3 Henderson Gonzalez will unveil their creations, discuss their process and answer questions at Monday’s meeting. Light snacks, including complimentary cake, of course, will be served and beverages will be available for purchase at Veranda Lounge.
Just for kids
Bulldog Tours offers dozens of walking tour options covering Charleston history and haunts to Lowcountry cuisine, but the latest addition is kid-friendly.
Similar to the idea behind the trend of self-guided family scavenger hunts, the company is adding a Charleston twist. The outing isn’t tied to a specific time, unlike guided tours. Visitors can order a scavenger hunt kit online and pick it up at the attraction’s office. Kids receive a stuffed version of the company’s bulldog ambassador to “walk” and a map that will guide them to 10 points of interest in downtown Charleston. Once all the questions are answered, kids can return to the tour company’s headquarters to receive a prize.
Sunflower fields forever
Boone Hall Farms opened its self-service sunflower field to allow visitors to view and purchase species from the daisy family.
The cost of entry is $2 and $2 per stem picked.
The 120-acre site along U.S. Highway 17 in Mount Pleasant is the agricultural arm of Boone Hall Plantation. The farm grows and sells a wide variety of fresh local produce throughout the year.
The sunflower fields are open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
