It’s summer and you know what that means: delicious treats from food trucks.

Whether it’s ice cream and desserts or barbecue and pizza, the delicious smell of carnival food wafting through the streets is enough to make your mouth water. And because food trucks travel well, you can find them just about anywhere, from festivals to weekly installations at area businesses and parks.

We talked about some local trucks in New Philadelphia, Dover and Tuscarawas County that you can follow on Facebook and see where they are next.

Three Lil Piggies BBQ and Food Truck

Three Lil Piggies BBQ and Food Truck is a triple threat in Tuscarawas County, with a restaurant, food truck and catering services. No matter how you want that barbecue, there’s a way to get it. But for now, let’s focus on the food truck, which has an exceptional menu that you can check out on their website here or you can follow their Instagram account (@threelilpiggiesbbq). If you want to know where they are, you will have to go to the website.

So what does this barbecue offer? An interesting mix of classic dishes like pulled pork or chicken sandwiches, ribs and brisket, plus barbecue and other culinary fusions like Piggie Rolls (egg rolls with a barbecue salad twist of southern cider and sweet smoked pork) and Cowboy. Caviar (mixture of peppers, peas, black beans, charred corn, crushed garlic and cilantro marinated in a red wine vinaigrette served with tortilla chips). They also offer a Mac-n-Cheese bowl that you can top with your favorite meat and sides, including green beans, southern cider salad, hushpuppies, man-n-cheese, and sweet potato fries. They also note that menu availability and prices are subject to change throughout the year.

Schloneger’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream

The nearly 1,000 followers of the Schloneger’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream food truck Facebook page are already marking their calendars with the release of their 2024 schedule of where they will be and when this summer. For what? With its 5 stars, it’s a safe bet for a delicious fresh treat during the dog days of summer. Schloneger’s promises on its Facebook page to “make the best real ‘homemade’ ice cream, made on site or nearby and to ‘bring back memories’ of your homemade ice cream efforts.” Flavors vary depending on a given event, but its Facebook page displays flavor possibilities that include dairy-free and diabetic-friendly mint chocolate chip, mango, dandelion, oranges + cream, black cherry , Reese’s Cup vanilla, cake batter, coconut cream, pumpkin and pecans, Cookies and cream, espresso, maple smoked pecans, lavender, cinnamon and pecan crunch pecans, peach, blueberry chocolate chips, cookie dough, Mt. Dew sorbet, lemon curd and of course the classics chocolate and vanilla. You can get the ice cream. cream in a bowl or on a waffle or cake cone, as well as in a root beer float. You can also buy the ice cream in pints or liters to take away.

Ross Mountain BBQ and Catering

The more than 3,400 followers on the Ross Mountain BBQ and Catering Facebook page regularly rave about mouth-watering photos of their menu items. And with a 4.9 rating, it’s probably safe to say it’s as good as it looks. And they are good at announcing where they will be with photos of what they are preparing for visitors. It’s classic barbecue up Ross Mountain with pulled pork, brisket, tenderloin, wings, green beans, baked beans, cheesy potatoes, mac and cheese and coleslaw . They also offer fruit cups, racks of ribs, and various culinary delights like bacon-wrapped brats and chicken skewers, as well as bean-smothered brats and a meat mac dish.

Black sheep salads

The first thing you’ll notice about the Black Sheep Salads food truck is that it’s not a truck. It’s a bus – an eye-catching white bus with black trim and a plant hanging from the passenger side mirror. It’s a feast for the eyes, just like the fresh food you can buy. With a 5-star rating on her Facebook page, her nearly 3,000 followers can’t be wrong, right? And this food truck, er, bus, is great at keeping its followers informed about where and when they’ll be so people can get a fresh salad or meal.

The whole point of this food truck is “Build Your Own Salad” and they offer an incredible assortment of toppings so you can create exactly what you want, from fresh fruits and vegetables to sunflower seeds and Tostitos strips. They also offer side treats with your salad called Nummies including a Pickle Stick, Pretzel, Nachos and Cheese, Loaded Nachos, Meat Loaded Nachos, Coney Dogs, Hot Dogs, Dogs of Chicago and tacos. Oh, and to reward you for eating so healthily, they offer cotton candy or a slice of cheesecake. And if you ate really well, you can buy a whole cheesecake, and it’s no big deal.

The Icy Spoon Shaved Ice (formerly Hippie Shack Shaved Ice)

The former Hippie Shack Shaved Ice food truck was sold last summer and renamed The Icy Spoon Shaved Ice food truck – and it seems the shaved ice is still going strong with frequent posts on its new Facebook page showing where and when it will be located for people to taste this cool and delicious treat on hot summer days. How can you not love something that looks like a rainbow concoction of goodness just on your social media? The menu is a “choose your own flavor” shaved ice in small, medium or large, with a different flavor depending on the location. including ones like lime and coconut. You can obviously mix and match your own concoction with flavors like mango, lemon, passion fruit, peach, grape, blueberry, banana, pink lemonade, red raspberry, root beer, pineapple, and more. You can also choose add-ins like vanilla, coconut or banana cream.

Backwoods Smokehouse, LLC

With 1,400 followers on its Facebook page, the 5-star-rated Backwoods Smokehouse food truck is adept at keeping its fans informed of where and when it will be. And that’s great news considering how delicious her photos look for her specific brand of barbecue and sides.

The menu includes classic sandwiches like the brisket sandwich, pulled pork or pulled chicken, and specials where you can add two sides to the sandwich, or you can get a platter with just meat, sides and a slice cornbread. Sides include smoked mac and cheese, smokehouse baked beans, seasoned green beans, cheesy potatoes, southern fries, coleslaw, Italian pasta salad, potato casserole sweets, a fiesta corn casserole and fresh cut fries. They also offer two delicious smokehouse specialties: the Brushpile, which is fresh-cut fries topped with your choice of meat, shredded cheese, sour cream, jalapenos, green onions and barbecue sauce; and the Smokehouse Sundae which is 2 scoops of homemade mashed potatoes topped with your choice of meat, shredded cheese, sour cream, jalapenos, green onions and barbecue sauce.
