Chocolate recall triggers nationwide warning

A recall has been issued for several hundred units of Authentik Fudge Chocolate Nut Fudge products due to potential contamination by mold growth.

According to a press release issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a recall was announced Wednesday for 840 units of the Canadian manufacturer’s Chocolate Nut Fudge products, which bear the brand name “Montreal Fudge” on their packaging.

According to an image of the recalled items released with the release, the fudges were sold in a 160g box with an orange lid and a printed white background. The front of the box features an image of three pieces of fudge along with the words “individually wrapped.”

A separate recall was issued this week for chocolate cake slices made by Kalo Foods LLC after the desserts were found to be packaged with incorrect labels that failed to indicate the items contained soy, a major allergen. The recall is classified as a Class II hazard by the FDA, meaning it is a “situation in which use of or exposure to a noncompliant product may result in temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or in which the likelihood of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
