Cowboys Hall of Famer Michael Irvin Announces Grand Opening of Playmakers88 Bar & Grill at The Colony » Dallas Innovates

He’s known as the playmaker, and for good reason: Michael Irvin helped win three Super Bowls as a receiver for the Dallas Cowboys, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and anchored television broadcasts for years with his energetic wit and analysis. Now he’s giving local fans a place to celebrate it all — and watch new Cowboys seasons for years to come — with his own upscale sports bar and grill.

Playmakers88, located at 5005 State Highway 121 in The Colony, held a soft opening last month during the NBA Finals. This weekend, it has an “official grand opening,” which will begin Friday, July 12 from 5 p.m. to midnight and continue Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“I am truly honored to create a premium sports bar and restaurant where sports fans can cheer on their favorite teams and athletes, while enjoying great food, cocktails and company,” Irvin said in a statement. “I hope everyone who visits Playmakers88 feels the excitement, energy and love I have for the entire sports community and the DFW area as a whole.”

Cowboys fans will find plenty to identify with as soon as they enter the bar. A replica of the team’s Ring of Honor features images of Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith and Troy Aikman, also known as “The Triplets.” Around the bar are the names and photos of the 21 other members of the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor who helped bring “America’s Team” into the national consciousness. Other Cowboys artwork and memorabilia are scattered throughout the bar.

The 7,000-square-foot bar and grill seats more than 250 people, features 50 flat-screen TVs, surround sound, “live music” and a pool table. The menu features the cuisine of Chef Rassuan “RJ” Johnson, “who adds his unique touch while creatively combining traditional family recipes with modern delights,” the venue says, ranging from crab cakes and chicken wings to burgers, pasta, Southern cuisine and seafood dishes.

In addition to signature cocktails, guests can choose from more than 20 domestic and imported draft beers.

“This is truly a full-circle moment,” said Irvin. “I’ve enjoyed Chef RJ’s cooking for years, so having him lead our menu offering is a true honor and a great pleasure for our guests.”

Friday’s opening event will feature live music and stand-up comedy by actor and comedian Tommy Davidson. Saturday will feature a “family afternoon” featuring entertainment, giveaways, autograph sessions and photo opportunities. Saturday attendees are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite sports team’s colors.

A percentage of the proceeds from the weekend celebration will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Dallas. (Irvin recently shared that his wife Sandy has been battling early-onset Alzheimer’s for several years. The couple has been married since 1990.)
