Dead mouse found in Hershey’s chocolate syrup, company responds

Family members became suspicious when they found small strands of hair in the syrup.

After a Mumbai-based doctor found a human finger in an ice cream cone, another similar incident has raised serious concerns about food safety and hygiene standards in India. On Instagram, a family recently shared their harrowing experience after finding a dead mouse in a bottle of Hershey’s chocolate syrup ordered from Zepto. Prami Sridhar, who shared the video, said three members of her family had consumed the contaminated syrup and one of them had to receive medical treatment.

The incident occurred last month when the family ordered Hershey’s chocolate syrup to accompany brownie cakes. However, they became suspicious when they found small strands of hair in the syrup and decided to inspect it. While emptying the bottle into a disposable cup, a dead mouse fell out. The video shows a family member even washing it under running water to confirm that it is indeed a dead mouse.

“Guys, please be conscious of what you eat and what you eat. Please check when giving to children… This is extremely concerning and unacceptable. We were concerned about health risks and lack of quality control. please resolve this issue immediately. I demand a thorough investigation and assurance that this will not happen again,” Ms Sridhar wrote while sharing the video.

In response to the video, Hershey’s wrote: “Hello, we are so sorry to see this. Please send us the UPC and bottle manufacturing code to consumercare@hersheys.com with reference number 11082163 so one of our team members can help you!”

Meanwhile, the video disgusted users and many demanded an investigation into the matter. One user wrote: “The item came to you in a sealed package. The problem comes from the manufacturing brand and not from the delivery service application. Rather than criticizing Zepto, file a consumer court complaint against Hershey’s.

Another wrote: “This is just one bottle found. Think about how many homes could have leftover bottles containing bacteria from a dead rat.

A third said: “Since the last few days I have been horrified to see so many unhygienic practices that I stopped using so many packaged products and started eating only healthy, unpackaged products. I hope that in the future I can stop this completely. » ‘

A fourth said: “This is a very serious matter and should be subject to action against this company. » A fifth added: “How is it possible for a mouse to get inside sealed products? »
