Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, a pulmonologist, explained in his presentation that asthma is a disease in which a person’s airways become inflamed, narrow, and produce excess mucus, making it difficult to breathe. Asthma can be minor or interfere with daily activities. In some cases, it can lead to a life-threatening attack. Asthma can cause difficulty in breathing, chest pain, coughing, and wheezing. Symptoms can sometimes become severe.
Treatment relies on self-medication and the administration of bronchodilators to prevent flare-ups and manage symptoms. Asthma can usually be managed using reliever inhalers to treat symptoms (salbutamol) and controller inhalers that prevent symptoms (steroids, he added).
