Asthma can be minor or interfere with daily activities. In some cases, it can lead to a life-threatening attack. Asthma can cause difficulty in breathing, chest pain, coughing, and wheezing. Symptoms can sometimes become severe.
Treatment is based on self-management and the administration of bronchodilators to prevent flare-ups and manage symptoms. Asthma can usually be managed using reliever inhalers to treat symptoms (salbutamol) and controller inhalers that prevent symptoms (steroids, he added).
