Tackling the effect of junk food on the liver, Dr. Ruchika Jain said: “Recent studies have revealed that fast food is associated with non -alcoholic liver disease, a potentially fatal condition in which fat accumulates in the liver. The risks to develop a non -alcoholic liver disease can be the highest for people with obesity and diabetes. ”
How junk food affects the liver:
Non -alcoholic liver disease: Sugar breaks down into glucose which is used by cells for energy. An excess of sugar or glucose is converted into fat and is stored in the liver, but over time, liver cells are replaced by fat cells which no longer detoxify and ultimately leads to a non -alcoholic hepatic disease (NAFLD). This disease if it is not treated over time is converted into cirrhosis / fibrosis and finally to liver insufficiency and cancer. Grade 2 foie gras is very commonly observed in the early 1930s with predicabetic conditions.

Liver fibrosis: Commercial drinks such as ventilated drinks, packaged juices, energy drinks, etc. are charged with sugars which are converted into fats which lead to the NAFLD. Too much salt causes several changes in liver cells because it increases oxidative stress. Research has revealed that a high consumption of salt can induce hepatic fibrosis, which is an accumulation of collagen in liver cells. Worse still, the liver damage induced by junk food is difficult to reverse. Read also | Can nibbles on junk food can corrode your memory and increase the risk of stroke? The study offers responses
