“On Friday July 5th my last show ‘2FM Breakfast’ will take place.
“I’m incredibly grateful and proud of the last five years at 2FM, I’ve absolutely loved it.
“Thank you to Dan and Paul for this incredible opportunity and for taking a full flyer on me. Many people say they will give you a chance, very few actually do and I can’t thank you enough.
“To all the producers, BCOs and presenters I have had the chance to deal with, thank you for being so incredibly helpful and kind to me.”
It follows the departure of his breakfast show co-host Doireann Garrihy last May and The 2 Johnnies’ decision to leave the station.
Mr O’Callaghan, who played rugby for Munster and Ireland, has presented the RTÉ 2fm Breakfast Show alongside Ms Garrihy and Carl Mullan, since May 31, 2021.
In his statement, Mr O’Callaghan thanked his colleagues at 2FM.
“All the unsung heroes like Cieran in Promotions, your superstar Lily, the social media team and the whole Switching team (from top to bottom on Cork 2) The Cork studio for always being so accommodating.
“Bar Paul on the numbers, I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone.
“The heartbeat of course is the fantastic listeners, I will always appreciate the love and support – you have been the best!
“Some people deserve special mentions.
“Producer Grace, ‘thank you’ will never cover all of that. When everyone is telling you what you want to hear, you step up and tell the truth, you are an amazing teammate.
“Willem, of course you are exceptional at your job, we all know that, but you learn a lot about people at 5 a.m., you are an exceptional human.
“Aifric, I know we haven’t accumulated many miles together but I loved every minute.
“Carl and Doireann, you know exactly what you mean to me and only one word does it justice: TIME.
“We all have a reason to jump out of bed and take on the day. I once again had the chance to do something I loved for the past five years. Of course, it takes sacrifice and of commitment, in my case, this burden was carried by Jenny. Thank you for always supporting me.
We are going back.
“Now is the time to focus on winning Ireland’s Fittest Family, continuing to work on all my exciting rugby projects and something else that is a complete ‘disaster’.
In the words of Farmer Hoggett: “It will do, it will do…”
