El Paso parents who need a little more food for their children this summer may want to send them back to school.

Many school districts will offer free breakfast and lunch during the summer months.

According to Feeding America, nearly one in four children in Texas faces hunger. Schools that offer free meals attempt to promote a healthy, active lifestyle. They offer meals for all children, not just their students 18 and under.

Here’s a look at the free meals program for 2024.

Ysleta ISD high schools will offer children

For children who rely on school meals during the school year, these meals provide a source of good nutrition when school is out for the long summer vacation.

Eight secondary schools in the Ysleta district will offer children free breakfast and lunch throughout the month of June.

The 2024 Ysleta ISD Summer Food Service Program will offer breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for children ages 1-18. The program will run until June 28.

Schools idea to offer free meals in June and July

Idea Public Schools will serve free meals to any child aged 18 and under from June 17 to July 26.

The Idea Public Schools Child Nutrition Program is open to all students, not just Idea students.

“A healthy diet is important for all children in our community, not just when they are studying in the classroom, but throughout the year,” said Fernando Aguilar, vice president of the Public School Child Nutrition Program. IDEA, in a press release. “With nearly 1.7 million children in Texas at risk of going hungry this summer, we are excited to be able to provide nutritious meals while relieving families of the potential financial burden they may experience during the summer .”

Summer meals will include breakfast and lunch and must be eaten in the cafeteria at any Idea El Paso campus Monday through Friday. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dining service will be closed on federal holidays, including June 19 and July 1-5.

Socorro ISD to offer free meals for summer 2024

The Socorro ISD will provide free meals to all children 18 and under at several high schools, middle schools and elementary schools. Meals will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Thursday until June 27.

To participate, children must present themselves; no proof of income is required. The summer menu will be available at https://schools.mealviewer.com/district/socorro
