Farming: the ministers launch 30 million euros in research – Life
The Minister of Agriculture, Food and The Marine, Martin Heydon, TD, and Minister of State, head of food promotion, new markets and research and development, Noel Grenish, TD, launched the Department of Agriculture, Food and Thematic Research of the Navy on 2025.
With an indicative budget of 30 million euros, this competitive call will finance perverse and transversal research proposals which meet the current and emerging challenges and the opportunities faced by the sector.
Launch of the call, Minister Heydon said: “Food Vision 2030 has put Ireland on a course to become a world leader in sustainable food systems.
“Our continuous investment in scientific research and innovation will be essential to offer a resilient, intelligent and competitive sector.
“The thematic research call in 2025 reflects our strong commitment to strengthen knowledge and capacity for innovation that meet the needs of policies, farmers, industry and society.”
The 2025 call will support research in four strategic areas:
• Climate, agri-environment and biodiversity
• Production, health and well-being of lasting and durable animals and plants
• Bioeconomics, AG-Tech, Agri-Nummerization and Data
• Treatment and consumption of safe, nutritious and durable foods
Funded projects will have € 750,000 to 3 million euros, with a maximum duration of five years.
All applications must include a clear impact declaration and a knowledge transfer plan to ensure the adoption and application of research results.
Continuing the long-standing collaboration of North-South in agrifood research and innovation, the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Daera), Cofonsera certain projects involving eligible institutions of Northern Ireland.
Marking the launch of the call, Minister of State Grealish said: “This thematic research call will hierarchize research which offers a real impact – whether it is to reduce emissions, improve water quality, improve animal health and well -being, or conduct digital innovation in food systems.
“I particularly welcome the continuous collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs of Northern Ireland, which allows many All-Island research partnerships.”
The Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine Thematic Research, the call of 2025, aims to support the science that will be:
• Advance Agriculture and Forestry Resilients to the Environment,
• Support the production, health and well-being of animals and sustainable plants
• Stimulate innovation in bioeconomy, digital agriculture and food systems
• Promote healthy and sustainable food production
• Foster collaborative research excellence, multi-and transdisciplinary
