MONTE RIO
Barbecue evening and cooking competition at the Monte Rio Theater
The Monte Rio Theatre will host its inaugural BBQ Cook-Off and Community Festival from 3:30 to 8 p.m. on July 27. The event will feature the cook-off, grilling, live bands and free lawn games. Cooks registered for the BBQ cook-off can arrive as early as needed. Prizes for the cook-off winners include a canoe trip and a VIP movie night for four, as well as a trophy and cash prizes. Backyard Night Summer Series at Medlock Ames
For the first event in its Backyard Night summer series, which will be held on the last Sunday of the month through September, Medlock Ames will host an evening of live music paired with bites from a local food truck and wines from the estate. The first event in the series will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on July 28 in the historic tasting room of Healdsburg Winery. Lila’s Streetside Eats food truck will be on site, serving eclectic pub fare. Tickets include a glass of wine, and wines by the bottle or glass will be available for purchase. General admission tickets are $15 per person online, $20 at the door, and $10 for Bell Mountain Preservation Society members. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Wine tasting on Wednesdays at The Lodge resort
In collaboration with Cline Cellars, The Lodge at Sonoma will host a complimentary five-part varietal tasting from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on July 31 in the resort’s iconic Stone Building. Sparkling Italian Drinks at Idlewild Sunday School
Bring out your inner Wonka with Idlewild Wines’ “Italian Fizzy Lifting Drinks” class, part of the winery’s Sunday School, a monthly education series on Italian wine. The event will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 4 at Idlewild’s Healdsburg Winery. During the two-hour class, guests will learn about the flavor profiles, technical terms and different production methods of Italian sparkling wines. Steamed Bun Making Class at Central Milling
Chef and cooking instructor David Groff and James Beard Award-winning pastry chef Nicole Plue will lead a hands-on steamed bun-making workshop at Central Milling’s Artisan Baking Center inside Keith Giusto Bakery Supply in Petaluma this August. The class will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 9. Plue will guide the class through the dough-making process as participants mix, shape and steam the buns to a fluffy finish. Groff will show guests how to prepare the fillings, such as pork belly, fried chicken and a vegetarian option, as well as the toppings, including coleslaw, kimchi cucumbers and a homemade hoisin sauce. Trombetta Wines pizza making workshop
Trombetta Family Wines is hosting its second annual pizza-making workshop from noon to 3 p.m. on August 10 at its lush Forestville estate. The hands-on event will include learning how to make fermented dough, preparing your toppings of choice and baking your own pizza in a wood-fired oven. Afterward, guests will enjoy a sit-down lunch of hand-tossed pizzas and sides made with fresh produce from the estate’s garden. Trombetta wine will also be included with the lunch.
