Heloise tips: cooking tips to remember, a boyfriend and more …

Don’t forget these cooking tips

Dear Heloise: Sometimes we forget some of the kitchen clues that we have learned over the years. Here are some reminders:

  • You can replace beer with wine as liquid in stews or soups, and you will discover a beautiful rich sauce. But do not use as much beer as the recipe, and do not forget the water which is often called.
  • If a recipe requires champagne, use a fairly cheap brand. Or rather use wine and keep champagne to celebrate a special occasion!
  • If a recipe calls wine, you can use almost all kinds, although a number of chefs prefer to use good quality. They say it makes a higher dish, but you can be the judge. Personally, I cannot make the difference.
  • Many wines specifically announced for cooking contain glutamate or monosodium salt, which makes them intrusive. The rumor is that the salt was added to the wine to prevent the cooks from drinking it instead of adding it to the recipe. So just use the real type that is drinkable.
  • You don’t have the red wine you need? Try using balsamic vinegar in its place.
  • If you need to add sherry to a soup, add it just before serving the time. Use about 1 teaspoon of Sherry per cup of soup.
  • Tired of ordinary vegetables? Try to steam them in white wine or balsamic vinegar instead of water.
  • Not all foods benefit from cooking them with wine. Acid foods such as vinegar, citrus, tomatoes, asparagus, onions, pineapple and artichokes can taste if you use wine. – MH, in Connecticut

Drink your water

Dear Heloise: More women should really listen to their body to look like and feel better. A practice of women who often neglect is to drink enough water, which ends up dehydration. There is a simple test that you can do at home to see if you need to drink more water:

Pinch the skin at the back of one or the other hand, and if the skin seems to be standing for a few seconds, you need more water in your system and your lotion on your hands. Try to drink 8 glasses of water per day.

If you remember, tighten the juice of a lemon in a glass of water in the morning before brushing your teeth. It will give you vitamin C and will do wonders for your kidneys. – If, in Arizona

Scratch

Dear readers: When you bring a new kitty back home, it is normal for them to scratch the furniture due to their growing claws. So, to prevent your kitten from ruining your sofa or chairs, buy a scratch post for this.

To accustom your kitten with the scraping post, sprinkle a little catnip on it because cats love the catnip! – Heloise
