Here are the worst fast food restaurants in the country
You might think that all McDonald’s restaurants operate the same way and offer a menu that tastes identical, but that’s not entirely true. There are several factors that differentiate a fast food restaurant. Some are well-oiled machines, while others are complete disasters.
Fortunately, Fast Company did the heavy lifting for all of us Big Mac and Crunchwrap Supreme connoisseurs, rounding up the best and worst McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC, and Taco Bell locations across the country. The site analyzed Google Maps reviews of each location in the United States and used a combination of average customer review rating and the number of reviews left by customers to come up with its rankings.
Now you’ll never have to endure abuse from a drive-thru employee or suffer from soggy chicken fingers again.
McDonald’s
Micky D’s location at 2130 Main Street in Eagle Pass, Texas has landed the coveted number one spot. It has a total of 194 reviews, a rating of 4.25 and a weighted score of 8.63. One customer raved about its “incredible interior design.” There’s plenty of space for customers to relax and enjoy their food, as well as self-ordering machines so you can get your chicken nuggets without even talking to an employee. Ah, an introvert’s dream!
A Calexico, California location (at 720 Imperial Avenue) and a New Hyde Park, New York location (at 2045 Jericho Turnpike) tied for second place with a score of 4.22 and a weighted score of 8.43. The California location, however, received 3,400 reviews, while the New York location received only 1,822.
“If you’re going to eat at McDonald’s, you might as well eat at a mansion,” one reviewer wrote of the New York City location. “I’ve driven past the McDonald’s Mansion a few times over the years and finally decided to stop and eat there.” It’s located in a converted house and has a 24-hour drive-thru.
10207 Lakewood Boulevard in Downey, California, and 101 S. Expressway in Brownsville, Texas, tied for third.
Here’s the real tea: The McDonald’s at 10042 South Zarzamora Street in San Antonio, Texas, took first place on the “worst” list with a score of 1.37. “The food was dry, old and full of oil,” one person wrote about the place. “How did they do that? I don’t know, but it was just bad.”
Burger King
Burger King’s most popular location is at 3040 Ella Boulevard in Houston, Texas. It has a 4.60 rating, 1,444 reviews and a weighted score of 11.05. One customer said the general manager was “amazing” and the entire restaurant had “great energy and great customer service.”
12790 NW Seventh Avenue in North Miami, Florida came in second, while 2280 East Garrison Street in Eagle Pass, Texas earned the third-best BK (note: why Eagle Pass, Texas, and its top-quality fast food restaurants?). A location in El Paso, Texas (at 6085 Montana Ave) and Doral, Florida (at 11400 NW 41st Street) were number four and fifth on the list, respectively.
The Burger King located at 4301 Sunset Boulevard in Lexington, South Carolina, is ranked the worst in the entire country. It got a miserable score of 1.42, only 114 reviews and a weighted score of -7.48.
“They don’t even give you a receipt, ever,” one person said. “Food takes forever to arrive, sauces are out of the question if you ask for them, forget the straw. Fries are unsalted and cold 9 times out of 10, food has been left out of my order multiple times. The whole place is absolutely disgusting. Like it was cleaned with grease.”
Taco Bell
The 5200 CA-1 Taco Bell, located in Pacifica, California, has been called “the best Taco Bell in the West.” It took the number one spot on the list of best T-Bells. It has a score of 4.42 and a weighted score of 9.81 with 3,400 reviews.
“It’s best to try to take advantage of the sunset to sit outside and enjoy your meal with a great view,” the customer continued in their review. “As for the food, most of the standard Taco Bell items with a few specials that don’t disappoint. They also offer alcoholic beverages!”
A location in Brownsville, Texas (925 FM802) and an outpost in Harlingen, Texas (402 Dixieland Road) were ranked second and third, while 3509 John F. Kennedy Boulevard in Union City, New Jersey, earned fourth place for customer service and 420 S 10th Street in Mcallen, Texas, earned fifth and final place thanks to its “incredible” manager.
1519 Saxon Boulevard in Deltona, Florida was home to the most hated Taco Bell restaurant. Customers have complained about poor food quality, burritos that “looked like a disaster” and even missing ingredients from their order.
KFC
The KFC Brazil, Indiana restaurant, located at 637 East National Avenue, is considered the best in the country. It has a rating of 4.67, a weighted score of 11.12 and 780 reviews, including one that says the food is “hot and ready” with “friendly and helpful” staff.
“The place was packed, but we didn’t have to wait for service,” the customer added. “A nice addition to our little town. I’ll be back.”
501 South Main Street in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, 1301 Southern Hills Center in West Plains, Missouri, and 514 Commercial Street in Harrisburg, Illinois, come in close behind. 3970 Highway 411 in Madisonville, Tennessee, comes in last.
Although it may come as no surprise, the KFC restaurant at LAX Airport, located at 380 World Way in Los Angeles, is the worst of them all. “Very rude people, mediocre and overpriced menu. Avoid if you can. I missed the simple order on the limited menu. It’s just sad. Eating there made me sad. I feel sorry for everyone who has to suffer in this place,” one customer wrote in the reviews.
