Philly Cheesesteak Recipe
Philly cheesesteaks require few ingredients, and you may already have much of what you need at home.
First, gather your ingredients. You will need:
- Large frying pan.
- Onion.
- Bell pepper.
- Steak or minced beef.
- Mushrooms (optional).
- Provolone cheese.
- Bread.
- Salt, pepper and garlic powder.
To prepare the meat and vegetable mixture for a Philly cheesesteak:
- Slice the onion and pepper.
- Thinly slice the steak. You can save time with store-bought minced beef.
- Brown the vegetables in a large skillet. Salting them lightly will help them sweat.
- While cooking, add the sliced mushrooms to the mixture.
- Once the vegetables are sautéed, slide them to one side of the pan.
- Add a little oil to the pan.
- Add the beef to the unoccupied side of the pan. Spread it out to get a nice sear.
- Season the beef with salt, pepper and garlic powder.
- Mix the beef and vegetables and let cook.
- It is ready to serve once the meat is cooked.
If you prefer non-beef options, consider replacing the beef with chicken or a mushroom mixture for a vegetarian alternative.
Of course, a must-have for a cheesesteak in Philly is cheese! So you can either top the mixture with slices of provolone cheese or put the cheese in the individual sandwiches.
For Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, place the bread on a baking sheet or use foil to make individual pans for the bread (this also makes cleanup easier!). Assemble your sandwich with cheese, meat and vegetables. Then place it in the oven for a few minutes to melt the cheese and get the toast nicely toasted.
As for these leftovers, consider pairing them with:
- A salad.
- Rice, teriyaki sauce, sriracha and sesame seeds.
- A baked potato.
- Tacos or nachos.
A mix of meat and vegetables is a great way to spread a little meat over a few days or feed a large crowd.
