Horror Show! 24-Year-Old Chinese Woman Dies While Participating in Live Eating Challenge, Reports Say
A 24-year-old Chinese woman has died while watching a live broadcast of an eating challenge she had participated in. According to international media reports, participants had to eat for more than 10 hours a day.
According to Creaders.netPan Xiaoting’s autopsy results revealed that her stomach was filled with undigested food and her abdomen was severely deformed.
Xiaoting ate over 10kg of food at dinner and also tried some strange dishes. Despite her parents’ warnings about the repercussions, the social media influencer continued to overeat.
Xiaoting, who worked as a waitress, started livestreaming food on social media after being inspired by a friend.
At first, she ate alone in front of a camera and later gained a considerable fan following. According to reports, her fans started giving her rewards during her live streams.
According to Hankyung.comXiaoting was hospitalized due to gastrointestinal bleeding after completing the challenge. However, she began a new round of binge eating the day after she was discharged from the hospital. She died on July 14.
The Daily Mail It was also reported that Pan Xiaoting died last week from a suspected stomach tear while eating 10kg (22lbs) of food, including what appeared to be chocolate cake.
Autopsy results revealed that her stomach was severely deformed and filled with undigested food, suggesting that her stomach may have burst, causing stomach acid and food to leak into her abdomen.
Xiaoting, who suffered from morbid obesity, became famous in China for her Mukbang livestreams, a trend that sees people eating huge amounts of food, usually very unhealthy, on camera. The trend originated in South Korea.
Doctors are now warning that Western influencers could be next in line, with several content creators in the US becoming hugely popular.
China has implemented a complete ban on mukbang videos, but that hasn’t stopped content creators from livestreaming their viewings.
Pan Xiaoting was live-streaming her 10-hour cooking marathon on July 14 when she collapsed. Viewers reportedly tried to provide her with help from a distance, but it was not enough.
She had recently been hospitalized for stomach bleeding, but it is unclear how long she had been out of the hospital.
When she died, most of the food she had eaten had not yet been digested and remained in her stomach.
Having a history of stomach bleeding greatly increases your risk of experiencing other serious gastrointestinal problems later on.
Details of his death from China are slim, but there are several ways in which eating large amounts of food without interruption could kill someone.
Eating this much food can cause your stomach to rupture or tear due to excessive stretching.
Eating a massive amount of food can also cause the stomach to expand and distend, which can compress surrounding blood vessels and put pressure on the heart, increasing the risk of cardiac arrest.
It can also cause serious electrolyte imbalance, which can lead to serious cardiac effects.
The appeal of mukbang videos originally began as a way to make people feel less alone, especially when eating alone.
Among the most famous content creators is Nicholas Perry, better known as Nikocado Avocado to his 3.8 million subscribers on YouTube.
The 32-year-old from Pennsylvania became a multimillionaire by filming himself eating astronomical amounts of food and documenting his weight gain in crazy videos.
While he began filming himself consuming large amounts of ramen or a stack of pancakes at IHOP in 2017, he now often eats upwards of 10,000 calories live on camera in videos with titles like “I Hate Myself, Goodbye YouTube and Life” and “Celebrating Our 700 Pound Milestone,” which features a friend.
He currently weighs 350 pounds, having started his journey around 2016 weighing around 160 pounds.
Another YouTube sensation is Hungry Fat Chick, or Candy Godiva, who has become a fixture in the mukbang video scene with over 280,000 subscribers on YouTube. Her net worth hovers around $1 million.
But in 2021, a 20-year-old man died in Hyderabad after eating too much of his favourite strawberry ice cream. Sai Sampath reportedly ordered a litre pack of the ice cream and ate more than 90% of it before midnight.
Around 3am, he began to feel short of breath and vomit. He was found dead by paramedics who rushed him to hospital.
Previously, a Filipino content creator died of a hemorrhagic stroke after eating a large amount of fried chicken and rice for his videos.
