Season of the Deep, the twenty-first season in Destiny 2 is heavily water-themed. Players must explore the depths of Titan’s methane oceans to uncover secrets that will help fight the Witness. One thing that has surprised players is the relaxing new activity of fishing.

Fishing is a brand new activity that allows players to put away their weapons and pick up a fishing rod to catch a variety of fish in three destinations (EDZ, Nessus, and Savathun’s Throne World). Excluding exotic fish, there are twenty-eight fish players can catch. But before Destiny 2 players can fish, they have to complete a quest to get the fishing gear.

How to get fishing gear

Fishing Tackle is an item that tracks the number of fish players have caught so far as well as the amount of bait collected for fishing. Destiny 2 players can hold up to 500 fish and 500 bait. Unfortunately, players do not start Season of the Deep with the Fishing Tackle. They will first need to complete the Season of the Deep intro mission which sets the stage for the rest of the story.

After that, Destiny 2 players will also need to complete the first week of the “Into the Depths” quest which introduces players to seasonal scavenging and deep diving activities. At the end of the first week of this quest, players will receive the fishing gear and will have to talk to Hawthorne in the tower after that.

From there, players will need to fetch 20 bait. Once 20 baits have been collected, Destiny 2 players must travel to the outskirts of the EDZ and catch five fish. The quality of the fish does not matter for this quest step. Once five fish have been caught, travel to Nessus to catch five fish there, then head to the Throne of Savathun world to catch five fish there as well.

Even after catching fish in all three destinations, players still have a few steps before they can complete the introductory quest to fish in Destiny 2. Every season of Destiny 2, a new wing is open in the HELM One thing players may have noticed is the large water tank in this newly opened area. Whenever players get a fish they haven’t caught yet, they can release it into the aquarium. Even if players have fish they’ve caught before, they can still be traded for rewards such as Glimmer and Sonar Station reputation.
