My morning routine is sacred for me: I do not leave the house without care and take my supplements. Once I arrive at work, my day cannot start properly without a hot glass at my office. But where I was driving for the coffee machine as soon as I arrived at the office, now the kettle is my new best friend – because I have been drinking green tea instead of coffee for a month now.

I was not necessarily a coffee addict, but I generally consume two to three cups a day: one in the morning, a second after lunch, and sometimes a third in the afternoon. It didn’t seem excessive to me, but I had started to notice that it made me a little agitated and trembling. I had seen a story about how green tea could be an alternative to coffee, and when I finally managed to do my own research, I discovered a full list of advantages that encouraged me to change.
L-theanine for relaxation and concentration
Green tea contains L-theanine, an amino acid that has a calming effect and can increase concentration at the same time. In combination with caffeine, L -Theanine promotes a relaxed but alert – ideal mind for targeted work.
Light caffeine contents
A cup of green tea generally contains less caffeine than a cup of coffee. Depending on the variety, green tea contains 20 to 50 mg of caffeine, while coffee contains 80 to 120 mg per cup. In addition, caffeine in green tea is released much more slowly than in coffee, because it is linked to L-Theanine. It therefore takes a little more time so that the stimulating effect comes into play, but it also lasts longer. The result is a soft and durable boost – without a caffeine accident.

What happened when I drank green tea instead of coffee for a month
In fact, I like green tea (I know that everyone does not), but in the first days, I missed the more intense taste of coffee. But after about a week, I got used to my new alternative to hot drink.
The first thing I noticed was that my energy levels seemed to be more balanced. Although I do not get the boost that my coffee gives me in the morning, my afternoon crisis is also much less pronounced. I have no problem falling asleep in the evening (I usually have my last cup of tea around 4 p.m.). When I had a coffee late during the day, I sometimes had trouble drifting.
I also noticed that I better tolerate green tea. My morning coffee gave me stomach burns several times, with green tea, it does not happen. I am also less trembling and I can focus better throughout the day.
After a month, I can safely say that green tea permanently replaced coffee in my daily routine. Overall, I feel more relaxed and less nervous. During the week, I just stick to green tea in a bag, but when I have a little more time, I like to have a matcha latte with soy milk. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t give up coffee forever. It’s just that now it’s an occasional treat, rather than a daily crutch.
