Growing up, my favorite part of summer could be summed up in one word: BBQ. Nothing, and I mean Nothingexcited me more as a kid than watching my dad start prepping the grill on a hot summer day. However, as I grew older, I realized that grills… are a pain. From their bulky size and unstable temperatures to (somehow?) never having enough charcoal or propane on hand, for a while, getting the grill out seemed like more stress than it was worth.

Ever since I became aware of this, I have been rather against grilling, preferring the indoor and stovetop versions. However, earlier this year, I heard something that made me wonder if there was finally a grill that would make all of the above-mentioned problems a thing of the past. Dear reader, allow me to introduce you to the Current Model G Dual Zone Grillan outdoor appliance that I’m convinced will change the way you think about grilling for good — it certainly did for me.

Design features that stand out

As for the things that stand out about this grill, the list goes on, so bear with me. First off, This grill is 100% electric. This means you’ll never have to worry about running out of propane or cleaning out charcoal again. This unit also comes equipped with an easy-to-use control panel with touch buttons and a knob that makes it easy to adjust the grill control. Speaking of the grill, perhaps the most striking feature for me is the double-sided design. What does that mean? Well, with this grill, you will be able to set each side to its own individual temperatureallowing you to cook multiple foods at different temperatures, all at the same time. To top it all off, this grill also comes with temperature probes so you can be sure to never over (or under) cook your meats again.

Now let’s talk about the physical design. This grill is a feast for the eyes, with a compact size perfect for small outdoor spaces and three elegant colors your choice of moondust, slate and onyx. The standard Model G dual zone grill comes with two side folding tables (complete with hanging hooks for utensils) and an open shelf with two shelves to store extra supplies or to rest food once it comes off the grill. That said, if you’re looking for a little more storage, you’re in luck! Current also offers three cabinet kits:a complete base unit, a side unit with shelves and an interior kit for the base unit with sliding drawers.

How did that happen

After receiving the grill and putting it together (no issues, by the way!), it was ready to go! The first thing I noticed (and loved) was its size. This grill is a lot more compact than other outdoor grills of similar design. In fact, it fits Perfectly on my parents’ little terrace, which we were all delighted to see. Now for the interesting part: the kitchen.

Using this grill really couldn’t be easier. I decided to give it a try on a hot Florida summer afternoon. After plugging it in, pressing the power button, and setting my preferred temperatures, I stepped inside to catch my breath (90% humidity is not (my favorite kind of weather). I decided to monitor the temperature inside in the comfort of the much-needed air conditioning and was delighted to see the temperature on the app climb to 350 and 370 respectively. Once the temperature was reached, I set about grilling my favorite hot dogs (you can read more about them here ). What I was left with were perfectly cooked hot dogs, grill marks and all, in just a few minutes (see: image below). After I finished grilling the other meats and a few veggies, I turned on the cleaning function, let it do its thing, and then gave it a quick scrub. And There you go! I have never had a more enjoyable (or foolproof?!) grilling experience.

What I liked

  • Dual Zone Design: Overall, the dual-zone design was the biggest benefit of this unit. By having two sides with individual temperatures, I found that it helped reduce cooking time by allowing me to cook multiple types of food at once (e.g. meat on one side and vegetables on the other) without having to worry about burning or undercooking one or the other.

  • Cooking quality: With this grill ranging from 200 to 700 degrees, cooking on this grill was the easiest grilling experience. With a traditional grill, I always found myself guessing at temperatures and sometimes undercooking (or overcooking) food as a result. I have yet to cook anything that wasn’t perfect temperature-wise. As for the taste, I was also surprised at how delicious it is grilled on the barbecue Everything tastes great even without charcoal or pellets. And don’t even get me started on the gorgeous grill marks.

  • Application Integration: While you don’t need the app to use this grill, having the option is a major Pro. We all know how hot it gets in the summer, so being able to keep an eye on the grill—and adjust temperatures if necessary—without standing outside in the heat on scorching days has been a game changer for me. Plus, it’s nice to have instant access to recipes with the push of a button.

Good to know

To clean this unit, you first need to run the SmartClean function which burns off excess dirt and grime. Then, you will need to scrub the plates with a brush like any other grill. However, the grill plates (which are divided into four pieces) are removable for easy cleaning!

It’s also important to note that when you first receive the grill, these grates are a shiny silver, but after the first use they will begin to develop a patina (they take on seasoning much like cast iron does), so don’t worry about the color changing.

One last thing: if you like the concept of this grill but are interested in an outdoor choice with a plate high, The current also has a hob This might be perfect for you.
