I’m a baker and a “crazy” bride tried to order an $850 wedding cake for only $50 – she asked if I was “new to this”
A baker has shared a shocking and ridiculous request made by a bride for her wedding.
They revealed the “delusional” bride tried to order an $850 cake for just $50.
Redditor RainbowSprinkles4 shared the wedding story in a post.
They explained that they were initially looking forward to making a cake for her wedding.
“I was very happy to receive an inquiry about making a wedding cake on my home bakery’s Instagram account,” they said.
“The lady gave me her phone number to sort out the details, so I called her.
“She immediately informed me that she did not want to waste my time and that if I was not serious about my decision, I should let her know immediately.
“She told me her wedding was in December and she just wanted to get all the details sorted out. I told her I wasn’t the type to commit to big plans without a few details, so I asked her what she had in mind.”
Her requirements included three cake tiers “set on a glittering acrylic stand.”
“She wanted fresh flowers (white roses and baby’s breath) cascading over and around the cakes, which would use this quilting technique throughout as a base.
“OR if I could use a mix of fresh flowers and sugar flowers, that was acceptable too.”
They added that his requests were becoming more detailed, requiring more work.
“But she could tell if the sugar flowers were store-bought, so I had to make them myself,” they said.
“She wanted the base level to be chocolate, the middle level to be carrot, and the top level to be strawberry.
“She also wanted one of those little stuffed dogs that you hide in the back and take a tiny piece off of to make it look like it bit into the cake.
“This dog was supposed to be an Australian Shepherd because that’s what she and her fiancé have. And if I couldn’t find an Australian Shepherd figurine or toy, I would have to make one out of fondant.”
I told her I would have to do some math and come up with a price, but I think she could expect a minimum of $850 to $900.

The cherry on the cake, they added, came when she inquired about the price of food.
“She asked me how much I would charge for a cake like this,” they said.
“She tells me she’s local and has heard great things. She saw my ads on Instagram and they want it to be a huge party.
“I told her I would have to do some math and come up with a price, but I thought she could expect a minimum of $850-$900 (which I know was a low offer, but I needed time to do some research and math).”
“She told me she wanted it for $50.”
After hearing the number, the baker decided to give him the benefit of the doubt at first.
“I got ready and decided to play dumb, so I said, ‘That’s a lot of cake for 50 people.’” The rest of the conversation followed:
“Her: “Nooooo, fifty DOLLARS.” Me: “You want to spend $50 on ingredients?”
“Her: “NO. For the CAKE. The whole CAKE.” Me: “$50 won’t buy enough FLOWERS for a cake this size.”
“Her: “Well, that’s our budget, take it or leave it!” Me: “Okay, I’ll leave it.” Her: “Oh, that’s great. Really professional. Are you new to this?”
After calling the bride “delusional,” she accused the baker of becoming “brusque.”
“I’ll go somewhere else,” she said.
“Good luck; $50 won’t buy you three simple cakes at Walmart,” the baker replied.
Viewers were shocked by the unpleasant interaction, with many joking that the bride should go get her bread.

“Let’s wish her luck on her journey to the reality of wedding cake prices. It’s not going to go well for her,” one commenter said.
“$50? Hahahaha go to Costco to buy cupcakes, cheapskate,” said another.
