The Indian men’s cricket team arrived in Delhi yesterday to a rousing welcome after winning the T20 World Cup in Barbados. Hundreds of fans gathered at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, eager to catch a glimpse of their victorious heroes.

The champions, including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah were whisked away to the luxurious ITC Maurya Hotel. The iconic venue was transformed into a celebration zone, with the hotel staff pulling out all the stops to create a truly memorable experience for the team.

The festivities began with a welcome ceremony to the lively rhythm of dhol. Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya enthusiastically joined in the dance, setting the tone for a joyous celebration.

The hotel meticulously designed a bespoke experience for each player. Their rooms were furnished with specially handcrafted amenities, personalised photographs and even delicious chocolate cricket bats and balls. A magnificent three-tiered cake, adorned with a chocolate replica of the T20 World Cup trophy, took centre stage. reflecting the colours of the Indian jersey.

An assortment of local specialties awaited the team, each dish echoing the colours of the Indian jersey. Homemade truffles, an assortment of chocolate-covered nuts and a variety of savoury treats delighted the taste buds.

Festive offer

ITC Maurya’s Executive Chef Pahoja revealed plans to have a special breakfast prepared with the best of Indian cuisine. “The cake is in the colour of the team’s jersey. The highlight is this trophy, it may look like a real trophy but it is made of chocolate… This is our welcome to the winning team… We have organised the breakfast at a special venue and we will be treating them with a special breakfast…”, ITC Maurya’s Executive Chef told news agency ANI.

In recognition of the team’s time abroad, the menu would feature their favourite dishes like chole bhature, along with healthy millet options and indulgent treats, Pahoja revealed.

“ITC Maurya believes in sustainability, which is why the breakfast has millet-based options. There are healthy options as well as a bit of indulgence,” said the chef.

The ITC Maurya was just the first stop on the team’s victorious tour. Other events included a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a BCCI felicitation ceremony and a grand open bus victory parade in Mumbai, which blocked Marine Drive for hours.
