Indian Cricket Team Welcomed in Delhi with Special Breakfast and Trophy Cake

The 2024 T20 World Cup champion Indian cricket team is finally back home. Led by captain Rohit Sharma, the team beat South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling final. This is India’s second T20 World Cup title, their previous victory being in 2007 in South Africa. The Men In Blue checked into the 5-star ITC Maurya Hotel in Chanakyapuri, Delhi on Thursday. The hotel made sure to make them feel at home, with a delicious buffet of their favourite breakfast dishes and a stunning cake in the colours of the Indian team jersey, topped with a chocolate T20 trophy.

ITC Maurya chief Shivneet Pahoja told news agency ANI that “the cake is in the colour of the team’s jersey”.

He added: “The highlight is this trophy, it may look like a real trophy but it is made of chocolate. This is our way of welcoming the winning team. We have organized the breakfast in a special place and we will offer them a special breakfast.”

Chef Pahoja revealed that the breakfast will feature the best of Indian cuisine, catering to the team’s cravings after their long tour, including players’ favourites like chole bhature and healthy options made with millets. Need we say how much Virat Kohli loves chole bhature? Can there be a better welcome? We don’t think so.

Chef Pahoja said the cake was designed on the day the team won the coveted trophy for India, and the kitchen team “spent the whole night” preparing the three-tiered cake. “The chefs, the pastry chefs and all the chefs worked the whole night, and the cake was ready by 5-5:30 in the morning,” he said.

The chef also mentioned that treats were offered in the players’ hotel rooms, in recognition of their hard work. “We included some really nice chocolates because they may not have had any in a long time and might want a little treat for themselves,” said Chef Pahoja.
