What is the story
Brazilian cheese bread, or cheese breadis a popular snack in Brazil, known for its chewy texture and cheesy flavor.
Originating from the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, it has become loved around the world.
Traditionally made with eggs and dairy cheese, our version uses vegan cheese to meet the needs of those following a plant-based diet.
Let’s go cook!
Gather the following ingredients
To make this vegan version of Brazilian cheese bread, you will need two cups of tapioca flour, one cup of water, half a cup of vegetable oil, one teaspoon of salt, one cup of vegan cheese ( grated) and two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar.
These ingredients combine to mimic traditional texture and flavor without any animal products.
Prepare the dough
Start by preheating your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, bring water, oil and salt to a boil. Remove from heat as soon as it begins to boil.
Add the tapioca flour to a large mixing bowl and pour in the hot liquid mixture. Stir until well combined; It will be grainy at first, but keep stirring until smooth.
Add vegan cheese and vinegar
Once your dough has cooled slightly but is still warm, begin to stir in the grated vegan cheese and apple cider vinegar.
Use your hands to knead to ensure the cheese mixes evenly into the dough.
The residual heat from the dough helps to melt the cheese slightly, facilitating a smoother integration into the mixture, making it easier to handle and prepare for cooking.
Shape and bake
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Lightly wet your hands with water to prevent the dough from sticking, then roll about a tablespoon of dough into balls.
Arrange these balls on the baking sheet, making sure they are two inches apart.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until puffed and lightly browned on the outside.
Serve hot
Brazilian cheese bread is best enjoyed fresh from the oven, while it is still warm and deliciously gooey inside.
They make a great snack or side dish for any meal.
If you end up with leftovers, which is unlikely, reheat them in the oven for a few minutes.
This will help restore their crisp exterior, ensuring they remain a delicious treat.
