Milwaukee Chef to Appear on Food Network’s ‘BBQ Brawl’ Starting Tonight
Still hungry to see Milwaukee chefs party on national television after “Top Chef” and Dan Jacobs’ impressive run to the finale? Here’s another dish to help whet your appetite: Brew City chef Ashley Turner will put her barbecue mastery prowess to the test against several other barbecue beasts on Food Network’s “BBQ Brawl,” starting tonight at 8 p.m.
The cooking show — now in its fifth season, hosted and executive produced by TV food star and celebrity grill master Bobby Flay — sends some of the best cooks to Texas where, over the course of 10 episodes, they’ll attempt to smoke their fellow competitors with their most spectacular smoked meats, guided by Food Network star Sunny Anderson and former “Top Chef” winner Michael Voltaggio.
Let the games begin 🔥 A new season of #BarbecueBrassade with the team captains @bflay, @sunnyanderson and this is the first time @mvoltage Kickoff is Monday at 9:00 p.m. CET! The brawl is back in its home state of Texas, where the brisket is juicy, the sausage is smoky, and the stakes are high 😋 pic.twitter.com/CpQYyHaPhS— Food Network (@FoodNetwork) July 6, 2024
This season’s contestants include Ashley Turner, who is no stranger to Food Network culinary competitions after competing on Chopped last year, where she finished second. Originally from barbecue hub Texas, Turner relocated to Milwaukee in recent years and has quickly made her mark on Milwaukee’s culinary scene at venues like East Troy Brewing Co., Hacienda Taproom and Kitchen, and the Milwaukee County Zoo. She also made a big impression at Sconnie’s ultimate culinary feast: the Wisconsin State Fair, where her Glazy Boy, a sweet and spicy pork sandwich but with doughnuts instead of the bread holding it all together, became a Sporkie-winning hit in 2021.
It’s that kind of creativity that will hopefully help him go far in “BBQ Brawl.”
Will Turner cook her competitors low and slow, or will her time on the show go up in smoke? Tune in to Food Network Monday nights at 8 p.m. to find out. (If you missed the premiere, the premiere will replay at 11 p.m. on Monday and again on Thursday, July 11 at 9:30 p.m. New episodes may also be available to stream after their live premieres on Discovery+ and Max.)
