M&S has introduced three new artisan buns to its in-store bakery range, as well as a football-inspired model. takeaway food bun and new sweet and savory bakery options in its cafes.

Kathryn Turner, product development director at M&S ​​Food, noted that the retailer used traditional bakers’ techniques to develop a rich flavor and perfect texture for its trio of new buns including seeded, olive and cheese varieties .

“Each scroll is made over 16 hours, hand-molded and traditionally decorated,” she commented on a LinkedIn post.

The Seed Roll is filled with soft grains and topped with a six-seed blend, the Olive Roll (with tapered ends) is packed with Kalamata and Halkidiki olives, while the Cheese Roll features West Country mature cheddar topped with Red Leicester cheese, Turner added. .

Prices for the rolls were not disclosed, with Turner saying they landed in stores on June 19.

Bootiful bun

A week previously, M&S launched a limited edition of a new chicken and coleslaw bun – dubbed the “Perfect Match” – in its Foodhall outlets. Made in partnership with the English Football Association (FA), this football-shaped bun is filled with British roast chicken, spinach, mayonnaise, pickled cabbage and carrots.

“We are renowned for our range of takeaway food products. In fact, we were the first to offer a pre-packaged sarnie commercially,” commented Owen Lilley, head of product development at M&S ​​Food. “So when we looked at what we could do to partner with the England football teams and show our support this summer, football was at the top of the list.

“Our partnership with the FA aims to inspire families and children to eat healthier through the power of football and, with the Perfect Match containing just 313 calories and packed with protein and fiber, it really hits the back of the net.” , added Lilley.

Prices may vary in some stores, the retailer said, noting that the bun was being added to its Eat Well sandwich offering at its food halls nationwide.

Other baked goods partners of England’s campaign at the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament this summer include Finsbury Food Group’s England shirt cake and ‘It’s Coming Home’ donut box from Project D.

Coffee collection

Four new cakes are among the baked goods rolling out as part of the M&S Cafés summer 2024 menu.

These include the return of the classic Banana Bread (rsp: £4.25), which is served lightly toasted or not with a side of maple syrup and organic Canadian butter.

The Toffee Cake (rsp: £3.50) is said to contain all the flavors of one of the nation’s favorite desserts – sticky toffee pudding – and is hand-finished with caramel sauce and pecans.

The Passion Fruit Cake (rsp: £3.50) features indulgent vanilla buttercream and tangy passion fruit curd, hand decorated with white chocolate shavings, while the Passion Fruit Crumble Cake Apple and Blackcurrant (rsp: £3.50) consists of a Bramley apple sponge cake, filled with buttercream and a layer of juicy blackcurrant jam, finished with a sweet crumble top.

A new addition to the kids’ menu is the Tuna Mayo Wrap (rsp: £2.50) made with tuna mayonnaise and responsibly sourced sweetcorn in a pinwheel-shaped wrap.

Finally, Greek flatbreads are part of the Big Plate Grazing Platter (rsp: £8.95) along with cold meats, cheese, stuffed olives, semi-dried tomatoes, hummus and rocket. There is also a meatless vegetarian grazing platter.

New baked goods have also been launched in summer ranges by retailers including Tesco, Co-op and Waitrose.
