As a vibrant coastal city in the San Francisco Bay Area, Oakland has a wonderful and diverse arts scene, and its delicious cuisine inspires people from all over the country to visit the city nicknamed the “Bright Side of the Bay” in due to its fantastic climate. . What you may not know is that this diverse and progressive city also has one of the best vegan food scenes in the country. Here are some of the restaurants on the Oakland Vegan Food Trail that you should try.


As the go-to spot for mouth-watering, globally-inspired vegan dishes made with locally sourced ingredients, Millennium has been a Bay Area staple since 1994. The welcoming, rustic dining room exudes a cheerful vibe and the Dining on the patio is popular. The menu changes seasonally to best reflect the best organic and sustainable produce available. Its Millennium burger with steak fries is popular, but it has a wide menu of dishes including pumpkin masa chalupa. A variety of vegan cocktails and desserts are also available with each meal.

Vegan crowd

Vegan Mob is a fun place to find delicious plant-based soul food and barbecue dishes. Chef and CEO D. Toriano Gordon’s mission is to “provide nutritious and healthy food with plant-based ingredients.” His dishes are made to be loved and appreciated while being good for you. Some unforgettable dishes served here include “Spicy Fried Chicken,” Fully Loaded Nachos, “Rib” Tips, Brisket, and Burgers.

Timeless cafe and bakery

Timeless Coffee & Bakery is more than your average coffee shop. It’s a plant-based roastery, cafe, and bakery. With three locations in Oakland and one in Berkley, there’s probably an ideal one to stop at during your trip to the Bay Area. Otherwise, it’s worth experiencing. They serve specialty coffees, teas and other hot and cold drinks. There is also a lovely menu of pastries, cookies, savory pastries, cakes and cupcakes.

Lion Dance Cafe

Founded by CY Chia and Shane Stanbridge, Lion Dance Café serves what they call “authentic, non-traditional” Singaporean Chinese cuisine. This all-vegan restaurant is listed in the Michelin Guide and the James Beard Foundation. It has a welcoming and warm atmosphere and its menu includes delicious noodle dishes, sandwiches and treats. Its wine list is vegan and comes entirely from expert creators who are systematically marginalized.

Roasted and raw

Located in downtown Oakland, Roasted and Raw is a casual, bright and welcoming plant-based restaurant. They serve a variety of fun and healthy foods such as a black bean burger, pasta bolognese, baked macaroni and cheese, and an orange teriyaki bowl, among many other dishes. Chef Imani Greer, owner and CEO of Roasted and Raw, hosted a self-care series focused on wellness at the restaurant.

Malibu Burgers

Some of the tastiest vegan meals in Oakland happen to be fast food joints. Malibu’s Burgers is a plant-based food truck that serves a variety of decadent vegan burgers. The Malibu Burger is a crowd-pleaser and is prepared like a traditional burger with an Impossible patty, vegan American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, caramelized onions and Mamma’s homemade spread on a brioche bun. For side orders, you can have fries or tater tots (or special fries or tater tots with lots of toppings). You can also get a vegan oat-based milkshake to complement the classic burger meal.

Golden lotus

As a Vietnamese restaurant offering a variety of Asian fusion dishes, Golden Lotus has been serving delicious vegan meals in downtown Oakland since 1996. The family-owned restaurant offers specialty dishes including traditional egg-free fried rolls, spicy sweet potato curry, fried soy “chicken” floured with breadcrumbs and flour, Mushu-Mushu wraps, mixed vegetable tofu and pot stickers. It also serves salads, soups, noodle dishes and rice plates.

The vegan Mac Lady

Vegan Mac Lady is a plant-based Caribbean restaurant specializing in pasta dishes like its beloved Butternut Macaroni, Roasted Garlic Alfredo, and Roasted Red Pepper Alfredo. Other items on the menu include green curry balls, red curry and roasted vegetables. Chef Njeri is dedicated to making comfort food using real, wholesome ingredients.
