NBC2 celebrates a sweet victory after the Florida Everblades won the Kelly Cup, beating the Kansas City Mavericks 4-3 in overtime on Saturday.
This victory not only brought glory to our Southwest Florida hockey team, but also brought home a tasty prize from our sister station Hearst Television, KMBC, in Kansas City.
In a light bet, NBC2 and KMBC bet on the outcome of the Kelly Cup final, with major stakes on regional specialties.
If the Mavericks had emerged victorious, NBC2 would send over a delicious chocolate alligator from famed Southwest Florida chocolatier Norman Love Confections. However, with the Everblades’ triumph, KMBC is now set to ship a batch of Kansas City’s famous barbecue to Southwest Florida.
KMBC announcer Cody Holyoke said, “OK, guys, you win. Again. Why don’t you let someone else win for a change? Congratulations to the Everblades on a third consecutive Kelly Cup. The team played hard. You guys are really fun to watch.
As the Everblades rejoice in their hard-earned victory, NBC2 looks forward to savoring the sweet taste of success, literally, thanks to the generosity of our sister station.
