150 Rabbits Need a Bunny to Love Them as Chinese New Year Shelter Closes: Hunter Hollow Bunny Bed and Breakfast East Syracuse is closing its doors after seven years due to dire need and a lack of volunteers. “It’s really heartbreaking,” said owner Annie-Laurie Hunter. Hunter currently has 157 pet rabbits of all sizes, breeds, colors and, of course, personalities that are up for adoption.

What’s new

Man stabbed to death by homeless man he had taken into his home, family says: Kevin Works’ family said his death was caused by his kind heart. The 62-year-old, who worked part-time at Meachem Elementary School in Syracuse, was stabbed to death in his apartment this month, police said, and a 33-year-old man has been charged with first-degree manslaughter in Works’ death. Works’ family members said he took the man in. “He gave until he couldn’t give anymore,” Works’ sister said.

Wegmans ousted as America’s best supermarket in new ranking: Wegmans has been dethroned as the best supermarket in the United States, according to a new list of America’s Best Retailers. The 2024 ranking, published by Newsweek, named Wegmans No. 2 in the supermarket category. The Rochester-based chain, beloved by “Wegmaniacs,” took the top spot last year. Here’s the chain that beat Wegmans.

How two Syracuse guys (and a friend) launched an influential bourbon review site: It’s not uncommon for old friends to get together for a few drinks every now and then. In this case, three childhood friends, two of whom live in the Syracuse area, cemented their relationship through thousands of exchanges. They took detailed notes every time. And they turned it into a profitable business.

Syracuse band Grateful for Biggie may be the weirdest mashup of all time: It’s highly unlikely that Jerry Garcia could have told you who Biggie Smalls was, and vice versa. That’s how far the Grateful Dead guitarist and singer was from the Brooklyn gangsta rap style that Biggie Smalls embodied in the 1990s. But a Syracuse band has found a way to blend these disparate musical franchises.

Looking forward

A new specialty fast food restaurant is coming to Destiny USA: Do you like fries? Then you might want to try a new fast food restaurant opening next week in Destiny USA.

Kyle McCord didn’t think Fran Brown would come visit him the day he knocked on the gate: Two of the most memorable moments of Syracuse’s football offseason came on the same day, Dec. 4. At 10 a.m., Fran Brown was officially introduced in person as the program’s new head coach, hours after Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord entered the transfer portal. McCord got a call from Brown that same day. “I should be there around 8 p.m. or so,” McCord recalled Brown telling him. “Where?” he asked. “Ohio,” Brown replied. “I’m coming to see you.”
