Northside Library Hosts Author Talk and Cheese Tasting

Corey Geiger, author and Wisconsin agriculture expert, will talk about his books – “The Wisconsin Farm They Built” and “On a Wisconsin Family Farm” – from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Northside Library, 1500 27th Ave.

The free program includes a signing and cheese tasting.

Geiger’s June 6 show also focuses on “the importance of Wisconsin’s agricultural industry.”

Everyone is invited to attend.

Saturday, June 8: Behind-the-scenes tour of the Simmons Library, 711 59th Place.

From 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., the public can enjoy “a behind-the-scenes look at our local historic treasure, the Simmons Library,” library employees said.

Tour participants will “learn about Zalmon Simmons, Daniel H. Burnham, and the history of this magnificent building.”

Note: This tour involves a significant climb of stairs. Everyone is welcome. However, due to the historic nature of the Simmons Library, the building is not equipped with an entrance ramp.

Monday June 10: Mystery Lovers Book Club at the Northside Library.

This group meets between 2 and 3 p.m. to discuss the mysteries they have read and also to learn about new authors. No specific book is intended to be read.

Monday, June 10: Roller coaster fun at the Northside Library.

To celebrate Roller Coaster Appreciation Month, the free program from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. includes play with some of the library’s roller coaster building kits. Participants can design paper roller coasters, “and we will also showcase some of the best roller coasters from around the world,” library staff said.

Tuesday, June 11: “Adults and Crafts: Paint Your Own Cloudscape” at the Northside Library.

From 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., participants will learn how to paint their own cloud painting in this step-by-step painting class.

Wednesday June 12: Night hike at Hawthorn Hollow Nature Center, 880 Green Bay Road in Somers.

The Kenosha Public Library hosts this evening hike at Hawthorn Hollow Nature Center and Arboretum. From 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., naturalist Kailyn Palomares leads the 60-minute outdoor program. Participants will learn all about the adaptations developed by nocturnal creatures to survive and thrive when the sun sets.
