Not dead yet! Electric motorcycle manufacturer CAKE announces its return

Everyone loves a good comeback story. Rocky. The Karate Kid. CAKE? That’s right, the Swedish electric motorcycle company is preparing to take off again.

In a new announcement, CAKE said the final chapter in its sleek electric motorcycle saga has yet to be written.

After the brand filed for bankruptcy in February, following the withdrawal of its investors, new life could now be breathed into the company.

Norwegian car manufacturer Brages Holding AS has reportedly acquired the brand and all of its intellectual property. We now know that a small team has been tasked with making plans for CAKE’s future.

“As a car retailer in Norway, we have witnessed how quickly the shift towards electrification can go when people think about it,” explained Espen Digernes, owner of Brages. “Now we believe that the transformation of the micro-mobility sector will also accelerate. Not only for motorcycles, but also for scooters, mopeds and electric bicycles. When we first contacted CAKE as a retailer, we fell in love with their products, the design, the craftsmanship and the story behind CAKE. Our goal in acquiring CAKE was to evolve the brand. We aim to scale CAKE by building a strong retailer distribution network and transforming a remarkable Swedish initiative into a Scandinavian success.

The company went on to say that a business plan for the new CAKE had been developed since the acquisition.

“This plan is an ambitious quest to dominate the premium electric two-wheeler segment in targeted markets,” the company continued. “At the same time, we aim to maintain the passion and enthusiasm for the brand through our CAKE team and dedicated community of riders.”

CAKE began making waves in the world of two-wheeled electric mobility as early as 2016. The company’s mission was to inspire a transition to zero-emission societies by creating high-performance electric motorcycles that combine sustainability and innovative design.

CAKE’s most notable model was the Kalk, a line of lightweight electric motorcycles designed for off-road and urban use. The Kalk series, which included models like Kalk OR, Kalk& and Kalk INK, showed the company’s commitment to merging different driving styles with minimalist Scandinavian design.

These bikes have been precision engineered, using strong yet lightweight materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber, which have contributed to their impressive performance and range, not to mention their distinctly Swedish style.

Over the years, CAKE has expanded its range to include the Ösa, a versatile utility bike that can be customized with various accessories to suit a wide range of uses, from commuting to transporting goods.

CAKE was known for focusing on both its engineering and sustainable practices, pushing the boundaries of what electric motorcycles could achieve in a new form factor while remaining focused on sustainability. It was a move that appealed to both environmentally conscious riders and those seeking performance from their dirt bikes and urban mopeds, even though the brand’s higher prices for comparatively high performance Lower levels meant that design and sustainability features were also an important part of the value proposition.

Now that a return is potentially on the horizon, we may no longer need to write about CAKE in the past tense.
