Peanuts and peanut butter are delicious dog treats, but many other nuts are dangerous. For example, even a macadamia nut can be harmful for a small dog.

Dogs should never receive peanut butter with artificial sweeteners. It often contains xylitol, which can be fatal for dogs within 30 minutes of ingestion.

Other harmful foods for dogs include avocado, onion, garlic, grapes, raisins and even rising bread dough.

Beware of bones

Just because something is not toxic, it does not mean that it is sure for your dog.

A classic example is pork bones. In Chinese cuisine, pork bones are used to make soup and cooked bones are generally “shared” with pet dogs.

Although the idea of ​​dogs eating bones seems natural, it can be dangerous.

It does not matter that cooked bones come from pork, chicken or any other animal. They can all become brittle and break easily. These bursts can cause serious internal mouth, throat, stomach or dog intestines.

The chicken bones are thin and brittle. Be careful when you serve chicken wings to your family or friends, especially during holidays and barbecues where dogs could easily tear a thrown bone.

In addition, a dog’s teeth can easily fracture when bombing on the bones. The bones can also be stuck in the mouth or throat of a dog, causing suffocation. Even if the animal manages to swallow the bone, it can always cause blockages in the esophagus and the intestine.

This does not mean that raw bones are the answer. Crude bones can transport pathogens of food origin like Salmonella, which can affect pets and their owners.

How to prevent suffocation

Small is a very common cause of death in pet dogs. This can happen when swallowing foods too quickly. It could be a piece of apple or even a fish ball.

To avoid this, always cut the fruit in thinner slices and train your dog not to snatch food. You can also consider using a slow feeder bowl or a puzzle bowl. It makes it more difficult for your dog to eat, forcing them to slow down.

If you think your dog has ingested potentially dangerous items, bring them immediately to the veterinarian. Give the veterinarian as much information as possible. Bring all food labels and save as many details as possible from the item, such as the amount consumed or a product photo. This will help the veterinarian give your dog the best treatment.
