Café 202 Slades Ferry Ave. Make a spring refreshment inside and outside, and this week marked the first revelation of a three -phase renovation project aimed at extending the location of Somerset.
The owner Bonnie Souza recently teased exciting improvements on the Facebook page of the property on Pink Bean, but said that she had kept exact plans under the wraps of customers, preferring that it is “a funny surprise when they come and see the new space”.

What’s new at Pink Bean
After a week closure, Pink Bean had its first unveiling on March 18 while customers entered a “completely renovated” interior.
The overhaul included a new floor, tiles on the wall behind the counter, the removal of a wall to open the space and a whole new counter system.
The advantages of the updated counter system include a barista area which is much greater and more efficient for them to work, allowing them to get to customers faster. There is also a much larger bakery case for their popular muffins and their pastries made internally, all presented just when you cross the door.
Souza said that interior upgrades are “fantastic”, however, they were going to restrict the seats, where phase 2 of the renovation is coming.
An addition on the side of the building, which should start in the coming weeks, will move its customer seats.
“Everything is new, it’s more comfortable stand seats … A pleasant place to sit and have coffee,” she said.
The goal is to open the addition to the public by the end of May, she said.

How it all started
Since the opening of its Somerset spot in 2018, Pink Bean has shared the Ferry Slades property with Amelia’s Flower Garden, who was led by Souza’s father at length. However, the health problems that his father encountered last year led to their decision to close the flower store and remove the greenhouse last fall.
According to Souza, which also owns the bakery in large Amelia Rosa Breats in Fall River, the initial plans included the bakery move – the supplier of the Portuguese muffins sweet used in many sandwiches of pink beans – on the site of pink beans in the greenhouse.
However, this did not work in terms of chronology, she said.
“It would have taken much more time than I wanted, so I deleted this idea, but I had already killed the greenhouse, so we went to plan B, which had to prolong the pink bean,” said Souza.
Soon, in addition to the main building of the main cafe, the dog park and the children’s playground, there will also be an external patio in Slades Ferry Property.
Greenhouse to Outdoor Patio
During the season out of season, the old greenhouse space was used occasionally for rallies and events of pink beans, but Souza noted that it was simply not possible to keep it only for this purpose.
And Souza had a different vision of coffee property.
“I have to stay faithful to what the pink bean is. I used it because he was there and my father always used it for the flowers, but when it changed, it was not something that necessarily corresponded to the pink bean,” she said. “I try to change the property so that it adapts to what the pink bean is – which is a family place, pleasant and comfortable to come and sit, with a beautiful outdoor space.”
On the cement cushion where the greenhouse was formerly, Souza seeks to build an outdoor patio just in time for the hot months to come.
Although the terrace plans are still temporary, Souza imagines a dining room with a stone wall around it, a pergola so that part of the patio is covered, greenery every time and “beautiful small corners and seat rooms which are a bit different from each other”.
The patio will mark the final phase of the renovation, and the goal is to start in the next three weeks, Souza said.

A return of the Fall river?
As for the potential return of Pink Bean to Fall River, where Souza operated a location in the city center for 10 years until the purchase of street Street just over a year ago, she said she hopes but has no immediate plans.
“I would love at one point to be back in the city … But one step at a time,” said Souza.
