Real or fake? The TV baker’s incredibly realistic Costa mug will keep you on the edge of your seat

A TV baker from Rawtenstall has teamed up with coffee chain Costa to create incredibly realistic cakes.

Molly Robbins, who starred in Channel 4 baking series Extreme Cake Makers, has created a realistic frappe from cake and icing – and it’s hard to tell from the real thing.

This collaboration is part of Costa’s sponsorship of CarFest, a music and automobile festival that takes place in August.

CarFest, created by DJ Chris Evans, aims to raise money for children’s charities and create unforgettable experiences for festival-goers.

For the past three years, Costa Coffee has sponsored the festival, being on hand to provide not only coffee but also quality experiences to CarFest attendees.

Molly, daughter of actor and comedian Ted Robbins, has created a number of branded creations, including a recreation of Costa Coffee’s Raspberry Bubble Frappe and a mobile Costa Express truck in cake form.

Molly said: “I was really pleased when Costa asked me to work with them on a new campaign for CarFest, a charity festival close to my heart.

“I have been attending CarFest for four years and love the festival, which raises millions of dollars for children’s charities.”

Molly will be a key part of the FoodFest lineup at CarFest, showcasing her incredible cake creations throughout the weekend.

Attendees will be able to marvel at their artistic creations and enjoy the festival’s culinary delights, before heading to Costa Coffee’s brand new two-storey pop-up to cool off with one of their new summer drinks.

Costa Coffee will be offering prizes and the event, which will take place from August 23-25.

Costa Club members can enter a draw to win tickets to Car Fest. Anyone wishing to participate must ensure they are a Costa Club member and head over to the app to enter for a chance to win.

Molly, 33, opened her cake shop, Molly Makes Cakes, on Bank Street in Rawtenstall, in 2022.

She describes her business as “a little different,” selling both “cakes and cute stuff.”

As well as personalised cakes, seasonal cupcakes and character cakes, the shop sells a range of other interesting items such as baking kits.

She often takes part in local events. Most recently, she made a cake designed by children from Hyndburn after a competition organised by the organisers of the Accrington Food Festival.
