Ryan Blaney shares Bubba Wallace’s “disaster recipe” with regard to the Nascar race in Chicago
Nascar presented the rue de Chicago race in 2023 as a decisive test to assess its potential in terms of fans’ commitment and diffusion numbers. While the street course itself struck a rope sensitive to fans, it was the first victory of Shane Van Gisbergen who really stole the show. However, what brings fans to their feet often puts the drivers through the spinner, and Chicago is a perfect example. Ryan Blaney recently weighed on distinctive nature and the difficulties inherent in the track, echoing the feelings previously expressed by Bubba Wallace.
When he was asked to shed light on the race from a driver’s seat, the 23Xi racing driver described Chicago’s race as an unknown variable. Wallace explained that when the drivers sail on a street course without runoff and zero margin for the error, the challenge is already high. Add a pinch of rain, and the track literally becomes a slippery slope, according to him.
The driver takes a corner too quickly, and they slide and slide, then add a little speed to that, that’s what drivers do in Chicago. He went further, highlighting the mental endurance that the race requires. “It’s just a whole recipe for disaster”, “ Wallace said, stressing that drivers must stay on the laser from start to finish, because even the smallest period of time can send uncontrollable things.
With the street race of Chicago just two months old, the team of the # 12 Penske team, Ryan Blaney, echoes a similar position, describing the thin margin of error. “Do not reverse a wall”, he said with a little laugh. “You judge thumbs at one point to try to understand how much I can approach the wall because your day is ruined, right? So, it’s just a risk type.”
By digging more deeply, Blaney explained that the most difficult part lies in the march of this rope between speed and survival: “Maximization of speed is also close to the wall with as much speed as possible, but the risk is significant. So, how are it to balance this. “
The NASCAR 2023 Cup champion also addressed what distinguishes the disposition of others. Unlike most of the tracks built for sweetness, he noted that public roads – like the one where the street race of Chicago occurs – supports the wear of millions of cars all year round, transforming the route into a journey to shake for cars in stock. Depending on his words, the bumps feel poorly worse in a racing car compared to a street car.
This is where the thrill resides, resolving a puzzle faster and smarter than the rest of the field.
