Carpenter, on the other hand, has been working towards her success for a long time. She became an “It Girl” after releasing five albums and starring in numerous films and television series. Some stars might be annoyed by this career trajectory, but the “Please Please Please” singer is glad her singing career took years to launch.

In a 2024 interview with Rolling Stone, Carpenter said she was happy to know that her career was gradually gaining momentum. “I’m really grateful that it happened over a long period of time where I was figuring it out, because I don’t feel like it just occurred to me,” the “Nonsense” singer said. “It’s almost like I can just relax and be excited about it. I say Sabrina wasn’t built in a day.”

Former Disney star always knew she would be a pop star

The Espresso singer was asked if she ever doubted that her singing career would take off. She didn’t! “I’m just boring,” she replied. “I’m literally boring. I never had a plan B, and I didn’t even think that it wouldn’t work out. I always knew it wasn’t a question of if it would happen, but when it would happen.”

During a 2023 interview with Grammy.com, Carpenter revealed what it was like to be named Variety’s 2023 Rising Star. “Just being recognized by them was also surreal, because I “I’m then in a room with a group of people whose music I listen to, songs I study and producers I love,” she said. “I was just sitting there talking to them – and it’s not like imposter syndrome, because it was truly an honor. It’s cool to be able to do what I love the most, and when these things happen, it’s just icing on the cake. I am very grateful to them.

How the charts treated Sabrina Carpenter

So far, Carpenter has only produced two top-10 singles: “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.” The former peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100, remaining on the chart for 10 weeks. Meanwhile, “Please Please Please” currently sits atop the Billboard Hot 100 in its second week on the chart.

Is Carpenter another star for now or will she last? No one can say. However, her sense of humor and clever approach to songwriting suggest she could stick around. She seems talented enough to still have fans, even if she’s not topping the charts.
