Say goodbye to cherry-dipped cones at Dairy Queen (for now)

Get one while you still can.

There’s just something special about a soaked cone in the summer. The way the smooth chocolate coating goes from liquid to crackling solid as it hits frozen ice cream almost feels like a magic trick. But this summer, if you like to chatter your teeth through the crispy shell of Dairy Queen’s dipped products, your options are about to get a little less colorful.

Late last week, the TikTok account @dqshelbytwpmi (which appears to be associated with a Dairy Queen restaurant in Shelby Township, Michigan) posted a video claiming that Dairy Queen was phasing out its cherry dip flavor. Apparently, according to the voiceover, the bright red liner was “already sold out in our warehouse” and “once we run out of inventory in the store, we will be sold out until further notice.”

Food & Wine asked Dairy Queen to respond to the video and allegation regarding the discontinuation of Cherry Dipped Cone, and the response was pretty clear: “At this time, Dairy Queen’s Cherry Dipped Cone is discontinued. “

But fans of red-dipped DQ cones shouldn’t give up hope. “That said, DQ is still rotating our dipped cone flavors, and cherry dipped cones may return in the future,” the statement from Dairy Queen continued. “Fans should check with their local DQ restaurant to see what flavors are available.”

That said, not all icing-dipped items disappear. When asked about the fate of the Cherry Dilly Bar, the brand told us they “will continue to be available at participating DQ restaurants.”

(And if you haven’t seen cherry-dipped cones at your local DQ in a while, the brand clarified to Food & Wine that, “For the past few years, the cherry-dipped cone has been an option. for our franchisees, so availability varies throughout our system.”)

Shrinking menus at fast food restaurants has been relatively common lately, with other brands like McDonald’s, KFC and Taco Bell looking to streamline their operations. But alongside the removal of some popular items comes another opportunity: bringing back fan-favorite merchandise as limited-time offers.

So we wouldn’t be surprised if Cherry Dipped Cones made a big comeback – with even bigger fanfare – relatively soon.
