Soon, enjoy the street food of the old Delhi in a night market near the Fort de Salimgarh. Here are the details | Delhi News
The Delhites can look forward to an evening of culinary exploration under the stars – a few steps from one of the oldest forts in the city. To revive the food culture of the street and rationalize the food culture of Delhi and rationalize sales practices, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) should launch an adjacent night food market to the Historical Fort of Salimgarh.
The market, which will operate between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., aims to offer an organized gastronomic experience rooted in the streets of Chandni Chowk, while maintaining hygiene standards and controlling unauthorized invasions.
The civic body had previously invited the applications of the sellers operating in Chandni Chowk and the surrounding area. In total, 93 registrations were received on the deadline of April 11, said officials, eliminating the need for an extension, which had previously been considered in the event of poor participation.

The applications presented a rich variety of favorite street dishes from Delhi, notably Biryani, noodles, Pav Bhaji, Chole Bhature, Kachori, Paranthas of the famous Paranthe Wali Gali, the fruit chaat, ice cream, lassi, and more.
The location, an underused shortcut near the old iron bridge connecting the Ring to the Fort route, was chosen after many deliberations. After discussions with the Delhi traffic police, necessary authorizations were obtained to manage traffic and public movements, said an MCD official.
The concept was proposed for the first time when planning the G20 summit. The initial vision involved the construction of permanent kiosks and a complete overhaul of the region’s infrastructure. However, due to the protected status of the monument and other logistical challenges, the plan has been put aside.
Now, the company has decided to adopt a progressive approach – 50 approved suppliers will initially be chosen to operate from the section, they must wear their own tables and chairs, and leave the locals with all their trolleys after 22 hours a day.

“Sellers must have a sales certificate, should maintain hygiene standards and should be ready to upgrade their baskets based on the requirements set by the company,” said an MCD official.
Each applicant is required to have a valid selling certificate and pay municipal and sanitation costs.
A screening committee of five members was formed to examine the entries. In the food categories with several candidates, sellers with the highest hygiene standards will be pre -selected. For remaining suitors, final selections will be carried out by a draw.
The design and specifications of the carts will be decided on the basis of public comments and suppliers during the pilot phase of the project, and the section will be embellished to call on tourists, officials said.

The deadline for completing the screening process was set for May 11.
Officials have said that this market will be strictly limited to food – vegetarians and non -vegetarians – and the sale of any other goods will not be authorized.
From the moment the market opened, an MCD official said: “Requests are examined … and certain lighting and toilet provisions are underway. Once these are able to start it (the market). Regarding the costs, it will be decided after the approval of the competent authority. ”
