The 3rd Tunisia-Africa business meetings aim to increase production towards sub-Saharan Africa

(MENAFN) The 3rd Tunisia-Africa Business Meetings kicked off Tuesday in the Tunisian capital Tunis, marking a milestone in Tunisia’s efforts to increase its exports to sub-Saharan Africa. The two-day event aims to promote Tunisian expertise in various sectors, including agri-food, electricity and pharmaceuticals, according to Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP).

Trade between Tunisia and sub-Saharan African countries reached $650 million last year, with Tunisian exports to these countries exceeding $490 million, representing 3.5% of Tunisian national exports. This event underlines Tunisia’s strategic orientation towards strengthening economic ties with sub-Saharan Africa.

During the opening ceremony, Tunisian Minister of Trade and Export Development Kalthoum Ben Rejab reaffirmed Tunisia’s commitment to strengthening political and economic relations across the African continent. This commitment is reflected in Tunisia’s active participation in bilateral agreements and regional trade frameworks, such as the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) and other African Union mechanisms.

Mr. Ben Rejab stressed that intra-African trade has seen a significant increase of 3.2%, reaching 192.2 billion US dollars in the previous financial year. This growth highlights the potential for increased economic and commercial collaboration between Tunisia and sub-Saharan African countries.

The Tunisia-Africa Business Meetings provide Tunisian companies with a platform to showcase their products and services, fostering new partnerships and business opportunities in the African market. The event is part of Tunisia’s broader strategy to diversify its export markets and strengthen its economic presence in sub-Saharan Africa.
