The Best Chicken Tenders Near West Palm Beach, According to Post Readers
Chicken tenders. Chicken strips. Chicken fillets.
Whatever name diners choose to give them, we know they’re very popular in Palm Beach County.
According to Jan Belwood:
“Great article on chicken tenders! I especially liked your preference for Bud’s. We’ve been going to Bud’s for way too many years to mention… I loved it then and still do after all these years… And I agree about the moistness, which I think comes partly from the fact that they fry the tenders and then put them in a semi-closed box that tends to steam them a bit. But it’s still excellent and worth the drive to Rivera Beach for an occasional treat.”
Readers may recall that the Palm Beach Post recently decided to find out which local fast food purveyor had the best fried chicken tenders. Not wings…not sandwiches…tenders.
After spending a week snacking at local restaurants and savoring their fried chicken tenders, we released a ranking of the top 10 restaurants based on scores in five categories: flavor, texture, batter (coating), and sauces. The final ranking saw newcomer Huey Magoo’s (with a location in West Boca Raton) come in one spot ahead of ubiquitous local favorite Bud’s Chicken and Seafood.

But we also asked readers to weigh in by voting for their personal favorite from our Top 10.
Over 600 readers participated in the survey over a two-week period. The big winner was Bud’s with an impressive score of 36.27%, followed by Huey Magoo’s with 28.29%. Chick fil-A came in third with 9.98%.

Unsurprisingly, many poll participants decided to go further than simply voting for their No. 1. They also gave their opinions by posting comments and questions on social media platforms including Facebook, TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), and via email.
For example:
I love your article on the best chicken tenders. Well written. (And) the expertise and tasting I can agree with from a born southerner, keep up the good work. —Johann Hoffend (via email)
Bud’s has the best chicken tenders. Tender, spicy, flavorful and not too crunchy. I’ve been eating them for years. I love this place. — Pamela Lunsford (via Facebook)
And even Huey Magoo and Bud have “liked” Post articles posted on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook.
We also received messages from several people recommending restaurants that weren’t on the list, such as the little-known Jaws Hot Chicken and Seafood in West Palm Beach and Publix (which isn’t a restaurant). Some readers came to the defense of fast food joints that were poorly ranked, such as Raising Cane’s (No. 5), or that weren’t ranked at all, such as Zaxby’s and Culver’s.
And a final message from James Trantham: “…Maybe a chicken with bones is worth looking into.”
Maybe.
