The Boys is no stranger to wild sex scenes, and Season 4, Episode 6 features some of the show’s most graphic moments to date.
The boys Showrunner Eric Kripke says they didn’t go “too far” following complaints about Hughie’s cake fart scene.
Few shows compare to The boys As far as shock value goes, this movie is not for the faint of heart, from the graphic deaths to the wild sex scenes. Sometimes, the sex scenes are so outrageous that they result in the deaths of some characters. This season alone, we’ve seen everything from an on-screen lobotomy to a moment of self-pleasure inspired by a human centipede.
The series’ latest episode, “Dirty Business,” is so aptly named that the creator is defending it against any backlash.

The Boys Season 4 Trailer
In the episode, Hughie poses as a Spider-Man-inspired superhero named Webweaver who generates webbing from his asshole. Hughie then infiltrates the home of a Batman-inspired character named Tek Knight and we quickly learn that Tek Knight has his own sex dungeon. Not only that, but Tek Knight is interested in some very specific kinks. The most notable is cake farting.
In the dungeon, Tek Knight makes Hughie rub his butt on a cake, sit on it, and then fart. The scene is as crude as it sounds, and it led some viewers to complain that it was over the top. One person tweeted, “Boys had some good moments like Atrain’s recent development and then he goes and does something stupid and pointless like making Hughie fart on a cake.”
Referring to the episode as a whole, another fan wrote: “There’s no way I would have had to watch Hughie get snail smears wiped off his face, Homelander get breastfed again, and Hughie fart on a fucking chocolate cake all in one episode.”

Eric Kripke defended the scene, telling Variety, “It all went according to plan. We had our poor assistant writer come up with a big list of real flaws, because we were looking for them. I remember reading the list and thinking, ‘What’s the cake fart?’ And then they explained to me that it was a real problem, but don’t look for it.”
He added: “I just said this is amazing, we have to do this. It seemed like a natural fit to have Ashley in it, because she has dom/sub tendencies. I love that it’s a perfect setup, that he doesn’t know his own safe word. It’s just like a great comedic setup that he’s trying to find all the time.”
In this scene, Hughie is desperate to find Webweaver’s safe word to end this situation, but he has no idea. It’s not until the end, when he is rescued, that he discovers that it is “Zendaya”.
What do you think? Did they go too far?
