“ The Breakfast Club ” featured for the first time in 40 years
No need for Saturday detention to bring back the old “The Breakfast Club”.
Stars of the Classic of the 80s of the 80s – Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall and Ally Sheedy – gathered on Saturday at the C2E2 Convention in Chicago for the first complete meeting in 40 years.
“I feel really emotional,” said Ringwald, 57, to the crowd, adding that it was the first appearance of Estevez during a meeting. “We no longer have to use cardboard cut because it is here. I really feel moved that we are all together.”
While approaching his absence of past reunions, Estevez, 62, said that the anniversary meeting “was finally that I felt that I had to do just for me.” He also noted the adaptation of the meeting in the Windy City, where “The Breakfast Club” was filmed.
“It’s obviously the 40th anniversary, and it was just as it was time,” said Estevez. “Someone told me that Molly said,” Well, Emilio doesn’t love us? “And it broke my heart. And it made sense, so I’m here.”
Released in February 1985, “The Breakfast Club” focuses on a group of teenagers from different school clicks that bind during a weekend detention session. The film brought in $ 45.9 million to the world box office and has become part of the emblematic cannon of dramas for adolescents, which includes “sixteen candles”, “Pretty in Pink” and “Weird Science”.
The film has since been recognized for its sustainable appeal. In 2005, the film was honored at the MTV Movie Awards with the Silver Bucket of Excellence Award, and in 2016, was inducted into the National Congress Film Register. He also landed on the “best 1,000 films in all films” in the New York Times and the ranking of the “50 best high school films” of entertainment.
Why should fans not count on a remake of the “breakfast club ” ‘
The cast of “The Breakfast Club” also paid tribute to the director of the film Hughes, who died in August 2009.
Nelson, who played Rebel John Bender, said that the death of Hughes was “deep for me”, partly because of the open conclusion of the film. After their time spent in detention, the students of the Shermer high school are seen leaving for the campus, letting viewers reflect on the possibility of their continuous friendships.
“I always felt in a strange way that the work was half finished, that at one point, we all got back together because there were too many questions for everyone:” What’s going on on Monday? “The film focuses on the fact that everyone must make this decision for themselves,” said Nelson.
He added: “Hughes explained to us the differences between young and old. It is therefore the time to show ourselves where we meet at the end because we are all older now, but we are not going to get this, which is sad. But in a way, Hughes said to us:” Think about yourself. “” “
While a suite “Breakfast club” is not in the cards, the Nelson co-star, which played Claire Standish by Queen Bee and Bender, the enemy of the enemy, weighed on the possibility of redoing the classic film.
“Personally, I do not believe in the overhaul of this film because I think this film is really of its time,” said Ringwald. “It resonates with people today, but I think you have to make films that are inspired by other films but which build and represent what is happening today.”
The star of “Feud” underlined the lack of diversity of the film in his main cast as a starting point for future tributes.
“It’s very white, this film. You don’t see many different ethnicities,” said Ringwald. “We are not talking about the genre, none of this, and I have the impression that it really does not represent our world today. So, I would like to see films inspired by the Breakfast club ” but take it in a different direction.”
